I have no doubt he was heavily influenced by others. Possibly even to the point of them purposely teaching him their point-of-view.

I'm not so sure that just teaching repugnant attitudes equals them being part of the plot. Presuming they knew nothing of the plot and he planned it out on his own.

But with the terrorism I think we should start viewing these groups who teach hate, and spread this propaganda, and push others to act against Americans as terrorism groups. Start actively taking these groups, their websites, their hate down like we do with many external hate groups. Start arresting suspected members. And not just the white hate groups, all of them.
What difference does it make if this Roof guy is a terrorist? When the state eventually kills him will he be sent to a special part of hell because of the designation? In addition, do hate groups commit hate crimes? We try to put everything in neat little boxes so we have names for everything. I almost feel like we are like Eskimos who have twenty six different words for snow.

Because some people will use that classification to try to silence conservatives, and who knows, may even try to criminalize some aspects of conservative positions based on the terrorist label. There are already several threads and posts trying to blame conservative policies.

Classifying can serve a much bigger purpose which can help fight the groups that are driving alot of these attacks. Kind of like RICO and organized crime. These racist groups or hate groups should be combated the same way the Mafia/Al Queda/ ISIS are.

I dont really care if Roof is labeled a terrorist. I want the Council of Conservative Citizens, the KKK, the New Black Panthers and many others treated as terrorist organizations.

So much for freedom of expression.

People should have the right to hate anyone they want, just so long as they don't threaten/commit violence.

The KKK certainly used to be the largest terrorist organization in the country. But what acts of terrorism has the modern day KKK and the other organizations you listed commited?

I don't think it should be.

Whether or not it actually is really doesn't matter much to me.

The guy murdered nine people and it's unlikely he's ever going to see daylight again, so I guess I really don't care what we "call" it.

But I don't think this guy really hated anyone, nor do I think this guy is really a terrorist (though by the most simplistic definition of the offense I guess he can be considered as much).

What I think is that this kid was just your everyday, garden variety, nut job.

There's no history of racial hate in his background. No associations with racially prejudiced organizations. According to what I've been reading this guy was friendly with black kids in high school (which he'd just graduated a few years prior).

This kid is a racist like Rachel Dolezal is black.

I think what's really wrong with this kid is a lack of personal identity.

He had no idea who he was, didn't feel like he "belonged" anywhere, didn't have any people.

So he identified with the first radical thing he found on the Internet.

I think that with him it was going to be "something" (either racial, or religious, or sex/gender related, or whatever) and he just landed on some kind of retarded understanding of neo-Nazism before he got to Islam or abortion clinic bombing, or stalking/serial killing.

And I don't say that to excuse the guy.

He killed nine people. For my money he should swing from the business end of a rope.

I just don't think he did what he did out of any real hatred or because he seriously expected he was going to effect any real change in society.

Sure, he said that he wanted to start "the race war", but that doesn't even make any real sense.

White people everywhere are supposed to rise up in fury because some kid killed a bunch of innocent, church-going people?

That comes from sort of delusion of grandeur and a total disassociation with how real people relate to each other.

And the epitaph drear: “A Fool lies here who tried to hustle the East.”

Well, if you listen to the fruit loops at the Southern Poverty Law Center conservatives are terrorists. There is lots of talk about the confederate flag, which during the civil war was a symbol of the democrats as they fought against the abolitionists in the Republican party.

I don't think we should go around and label every group we don't like a terrorist group. If we did that and I were in charge, Chelsea Clinton would be perp walked for her roll in managing the Clinton Crime operation.
