You didn't look at the link because you already know you'd be biased against African Americans? I accept your admission.

    Re: Are you racially biased?

Well, apparently I prefer light-skinned people. I don't know how that test works, but I guess that such a bias, despite conscious effort to not be so, is something that you can't just reason away. I'd always consciously try not to show or to feel preference, but there are probably 53 years of accumulated bias to pull in the opposite direction. I suspect that the first 18 of those years were the key. I genuinely never had a conversation with a black person until the age of 17. There were no black people at my schools, in fact no one who wasn't white British - I tell a lie, there was a Norwegian guy - and hence I think I must have got all my racial awareness second-hand at best.

Interesting test. I guess I'll just have to keep up the conscious effort in order to minimise the unconscious/automatic preference bias that is clearly still lurking inside me.

Once again, I didn't check either of the choices because the question was unclear.

Does it mean a preference as a spouse, co-workers, room mates, supervisor etc etc?

The only instance in which I would prefer s/o of my own ethnicity would be as a wife; with all the others, it makes no difference

I showed a strong preference for European Americans over African Americans, which is NOT how I voted in the poll. All it showed me was that using my left hand only, with my index finger on the 'I' and my pinky finger of the 'e', that my ring finger is faster than my pinky finger. Even using two index fingers would likely show a faster side, that which is your "handedness".

    I expected better from Harvard.

At least in my test they controlled for 'handedness.' And the first test I took was simply sorting - dark skin to dark skin, light to light, so your response times left and right under 'normal' conditions is determined and then compared to response times when you associate words with dark or light skinned people.

My test showed moderate preference for light skinned people, which is what I expected, although I do all I can to treat people equally. I suspect, but don't know, that the reason for that is comfort - I don't encounter dark skinned people on a regular basis in my town.

You dont think the results would be different if the test was ran is reverse? When you are used to doing something one way then they switch it to the other the mind is still in auto mode for the first version. For example pat your head with one hand and rub your belly with the other. No switch hands ooops you started rubbing or patting with the same as hand as before right?

That natural reaction makes the test invalid.

    Re: Are you racially biased?

Yes, yes, I admit it...I'm white and I have a preference for whites. Heterosexual, White, Christians..specifically Catholics..

    Is that wrong?

    No.

    It's my preference.

I wish all well, success, and prosperity.

    But

As with all whether they are honest enough to admit it or not, my natural inclination is going to be leaning towards my own self identification.

Grew up as a minority, have friends that are minorities, know and respect homosexuals and non catholics/christians, but at the end of the day, I prefer my own.
