How do you view Al Sharpton?

An activist who is working toward ending racism and has made progress in America?

An activist who is working toward ending racism in America and has had no impact?

An activist who is working toward ending racism and has had a negative impact?

A racist who is working toward dividing America?

A person who exploits what he can for his own self interest?

As little as possible.

Al Sharpton is a PoS.

He's a cancer on society.

i would be surprised if one person on this board defended who and what he is....

to me....he is a cancer

and causes problems everywhere he goes

Clearly the answer is "a person who exploits what he can for his own self interest." In fact it has become so lucrative of a business model and so self serving as a social model that there is a true vested interest in race relations *not* improving. It ensures the model continues.

Sharpton is very significant as the perfect symbol of uppity black race hustlers to right wingers, which allows them to discredit any cause with his involvement. Poor black people with an issue they are trying to bring to the public's attention appreciate that he publicizes their causes. (even though his involvement hurts their credibility as much as it helps create attention) To everyone else he is insignificant.

My vote goes for "someone I'm sick of hearing about from EVERYBODY."

The people whose lives he ruined don't think he's insignificant.

I don't know what is in Al Sharpton's heart and soul or what his intentions might be. I can only judge him on what he says and how he conducts himself. It is hard not to brand him a hypocrite when he picks and chooses only the high publicity events to 'champion' and only the ones in which a white person can be 'demonized'. It is hard to justify the racist, sexist, homophobic language he uses and think that he is not being deliberately divisive. For somebody with "The Rev." before his name, he certainly is no positive influence on the Christian community. And he is given pretty much a 100% pass by the folks on his side of the aisle when a person on the right would be verbally and if possibly physically destroyed for using the same language.

That is entirely Al Sharpton's own doing, purposefully.

People should stop giving him credibility. Most liberals don't think much of him either. His involvement in a cause does not result in all liberals supporting it. That is a right wing lie.

Wait a second. I thought I had to do what he said!

I respect him only in the sense that he understands how race actually works and he's learned how to make money off those realities from big business.

He's not an "activist" he's a professional mugger.

Um, I never mentioned liberals, did it? I mentioned the people whose lives he ruined. How did that become about liberals and right wingers?

Decorum (and forum rules,) prevent me from saying what Al Sharpton is.

You know what he is. I know what he is. I suppose it doesn't need saying after all.

A person who exploits what he can for his own self interest? He views people as suckers just like Hannity, Limbaugh and all the others and makes a fine profit doing so. Capitalism at its finest.

He is an activist that has done some good things for the African American community but also damaged that community from time to time when he choose bad causes to support. It seems he also profited from his image and his stature among African Americans something that has not damaged the fight itself but it has damaged his role and stature in that fight against racism. All in all it has made him less important or influential IMO.

Al Sharpton is an opportunist scumbag that is out to exploit race and keep division relevant in order to make money... piece of ****.

Difference is that Hannity and Rush actually believe their crap... I don't think Sharpton does and that makes him worse.
