Who should be the candidate for the Republicans in 2016?

I can't tell you who I like but I can tell you who is not acceptable. As much as I admire Ben Carson, who I would probably vote for, I doubt he is ready to lead the nation without dipping into the established Republican power brokers. That makes him vulnerable to agendas that are not his own. Graham, Huckabee and Santorum are at the bottom of my list. Graham and Huckabee are slightly above Hillary. Santorum slightly above them.

My dark horses are Fiorino and Trump. Neither have a shot buy I think both are uniquely qualified.

My favorite is Walker. He's no nonsense, make a plan, execute the plan follow through kind of executive. The rest of the pack is acceptable although I am concerned about a Bush dynasty.

who i will not vote for

bush
christie
perry
cruz
graham
huckabee
santorum
fiorino
trump

my favorite is walker
my second favorite is paul

if neither of those gets the nod, it depends on who does

i may vote third party or independent in that case

i dont think this country can survive another bush or another clinton.....just my two cents

Who should be the candidate for the Republicans in 2016?

Of those listed, I'd go Paul, Christie, and then bang my head against a wall.

Right now, Walker is probably the one I'm most likely to lean to....but it's too early at this point.

My lean early on is Walker simply because of what he has accomplished as governor. But that could change. I'm looking forward to the debates especially on the subject of foreign affairs.

I like Pataki, Jeb, Graham, and Rubio in that order. I'm skeptical about Walker as I suspect he is more radical than he appears to be and wouldn't be shocked if he made a hard turn towards becoming a social conservative firebrand during the primary season, not to mention I haven't heard much positive from him when it comes to immigration. I don't think I could ever vote for Rand Paul, and if he was the nominee I'd probably vote for Clinton. After that there aren't really any serious candidates.*

*I know Pataki isn't a serious candidate. He's just closer to my ideal candidate which means my practical default is probably Jeb.

Good morning, Vesper. :2wave:

If Kasich gets in the race, would that make a difference to you? The reason I ask is because whoever gets the nod will have to carry both Ohio and Florida to even have a chance of becoming POTUS. I don't have a problem at all with Walker - I like what he has done and I would vote for him. I also like what Kasich has accomplished for our State, too.

Katich is a good choice. It's going to be tough to beat Bush's money though and he's got a serious head start.

LOL......seriously? Other than driving HP into the ground and being fired for her incompetence....how is Fiorina even close to being "Uniquely qualified"? Even Sarah Palin was more qualified than her.

The ones I'm most interested in at this point are Walker, Rubio and Fiorina, but it's way to early to jump one way or the other right now. I think there may be a couple more to choose from in the near future.

Way to early for me, but I have no interest in any of the 4 you posted.

Mornin Pol!
I think Kasich is a fine man but I don't see it feasible that he will rise up to be a serious contender. Walker polls well in Florida and Ohio. Rubio is giving Bush a run for his money in Florida. Some are saying Walker/Rubio would be the dream ticket.

Fiorino lost a proxy fight but the choices she made for HP made the company stronger, doubling it's size. She wasn't fired for incompetence, she laid of workers and executives and made enemies in the board room. Her record with the company however increased innovation and sales. I think you need to do a little reading outside media matters and moveon.org.

Way too early, some have not even announced yet.

I really don't want to see another Bush run for president. "Read my lips" and the continuing GW fatigue is tiresome imo and just doesn't bode well for the hopes of a fresh new Jeb Bush candidacy.

I like Walker so far because of the fortitude he's shown as governor. Some have brought up Snyder from Michigan, but I don't think he's ready yet. Our roads are horrible as a result of the global warming induced historically low temps the past two winters and how he handles this issue may determine whether or not he'll be a good candidate in 2020.

Unlike most on this board I actually get to cast one vote for someone in the entire field. Probably 1/3 will be gone after NH.

As of this moment in time I like Pataki best of those who have actually declared. I don't think he has a chance and not sure he can beat Hillary. Of the undeclared I like Walker. A lot.

Morning Vesper :2wave:

Speaking of debates, I wasn't thrilled with Mitt before his debates but liked him much more after. I know a gal in her 90's who worked for American Motors (who Mitt's dad ran) and knew Mitt as a young boy running around at Christmas parties, and she said they were just the nicest, kindest people and he was such a good boy! It's hard to know exactly who someone is while running for president because I think they feel so compelled to create an image that everyone will embrace instead of being themselves. I think the debates can help bring out who they really are.

Kasich has been around for a while, hasn't he? I see him sitting in for O'Reilly from time to time and he's always seemed likable to me. Do you think he has a chance?

Greetings, sawdust. :2wave:

I think Jeb Bush is a good man, but he's got the wrong last name for many people. That's so unfair, but it seems to be the case. Also many people do not want dynasties, which a Bush/Clinton face-off implies. You can't convince me that only the "elite" deserve to rule, because they're superior to everyone else - only in their own mind, BTW - which is something I consider Bull****! There have been many worthy people who couldn't get the backing or the money that is needed to even compete, and that's wrong. When third parties have to jump through hoops to even get on a ballot, things have gone badly wrong in this country. The old saying "anybody can grow up to become President" is no longer true. Sad...

I met Jeb at a charity golf outing. He was a nice guy. Spoke to you as if he didn't have anything better to do. Looked you in the eye, had a firm hand and a commanding presence. He's very likable. He was also a good governor for Florida and left office being popular in the state. I have some policy differenced with him but not enough that I couldn't vote for him. Also governors make the best presidents. The only knock about him that I have is that three Bush's in office is too many for my liking.

George P. Bush i a rising star behind him. Many see him as a future candidate. He is currently a Texas land commissioner. Too many Bush's though.

Greetings, JC. :2wave:

Yes, Kasich has been around for a while, and everything he has done to date has been for the good of the people of this Country - he was the Chairman and the lead architect of the US House budget committee in 1997 that brought us the first balanced budget since 1969, which soon turned a deficit of -$163 billion dollars into a surplus of + $236 billion dollars! Not easy to do, but he accomplished it!

Since he became Governor of Ohio, new businesses have come to our State, providing many jobs to grateful workers. He is well liked and trusted by both sides of the aisle, and that was proven when he carried 86 out of 88 counties in the last midterm election, garnering votes from both parties, in what was called a landslide by experts!.

And probably more than anything else, he is a good honest man. He doesn't make promises he doesn't expect to keep; and he is well spoken and enthusiastic about what he believes good governance is - he cares about the people he governs, and we care and approve of him in return! What else can I say, except to add that whoever the Republican candidate for POTUS is, they will have to carry Ohio, and Florida, to win the election!

It is sad that he is being judged, unfairly in my opinion, because of his last name. With his qualifications he'd be an automatic if his name was Smith or Jones, IMO. :argue:
