Do We Need a First Lady?

With Senator Lindsey Graham running for the Presidency and being a Bachelor, (not that he has any chance at winning such) this does bring up the question about the need for a First Lady. Who would be the First Lady if the President was a Bachelor. What say ye. Do we need a First Lady?

Sen. Lindsey Graham, a presidential hopeful, is a bachelor. Would he need a first lady? It's a question complicated by shifting views of what a first lady should be.

To some, the role is more than just ceremonial. To others, choosing china sets and guest lists is a relic of a bygone age.

Only two presidents were unmarried when taking the oath of office: James Buchanan (D) and Grover Cleveland (D). Of the two, only Buchanan remained single through his presidency. But even he had a woman in his life willing to step in and play the role of White House hostess. Buchanan’s niece, Harriet Lane, became a well-known Washington socialite who, as the White House website highlights, “filled the White House with gaiety and flowers, and guided its social life with enthusiasm and discretion, winning national popularity.”....snip~

No. More relevant now, though, is the possibility of Bill Clinton as the "First Gentleman." WTF would he do in THAT role?

    Need? No.

    A nice to have? Certainly.
“I think if Thomas Jefferson were looking down, the author of the Bill of Rights, on what’s being proposed here, he’d agree with it. He would agree that the First Amendment cannot be absolute.” - Chuck Schumer (D). Yet, Madison and Mason wrote the Bill of Rights, according to Sheila Jackson Lee, 400 years ago. Yup, it's a fact.

Naw. We need a First Humbolt. I'll take care of the social events and calendar. Shooting clays on the WH lawn. The WH woodshop. The First Truck. Hot pepper eating contests. Bobbing for crocodiles. Annual congressional tomato fight. I'll put some zing into it.

Will those be Jalapenos from the WH Garden? That could be a problem. Will there be a Humbolt Microbrew as well?

Habaneros, at the very least. Moonshine - I'm living in Franklin Country, the Moonshine Capital of the World. Yard darts for Putin visits. Lotsa leg-humping labs running around the more sophisticated events.
