Do you believe Bush was a good president?

Do you believe George W Bush was a good president?

That's certainly a reasonable view. Politically the attacks on GWB had already crescendoed long before clean up or relocation.

Oh yeah, including the fact that some actually believed that he and/or Cheney personally blew up the levees to flood New Orleans because they hated black people. :)

That would be the Kanye West school of thought.

I know its an asinine question. It would like like asking if Ryan leaf is good qb or if lebron james is the worst player in NBA history. He failed at ever aspect of his presidency and to think otherwise would be to completely ignore the results of his presidency. I don't know how anyone can objectively conclude after looking at the results of his presidency that he is anything but a bad president. Despite his presidency being a unmitigated disaster he seems to have a loyal following here.

I think President Bush failed in a few areas, noteably the expansion of government spending. However he was a good and honest man. I would choose GW over Hilary every time.

Obama results are way better than bush results.

if you are a big government socialist or a hate America leftist you are right

if you are a patriotic American, Bush was far better than Obamatardation.

much BDS in the OP

as a pro gun pro taxpayer who is overtaxed, Bush was far better (his justices especially) that the crap I have seen from Obama.

Iraq

The Unraveling: High Hopes and Missed Opportunities in Iraq” is entertaining because Sky is a wry and intelligent companion. It is sad for its account of how the Obama administration squandered what Sky views as the victory that the surge had snatched from the first catastrophic years of U.S. occupation. It is enlightening for how it helps us unlearn much of what we think we know — for example, that “ancient hatreds” rending the Shiite, Sunni and Kurds make Iraq a hopeless case.

I could post links to books that say just the opposite....but to what avail?

The reality is, Iraq is what it is today because GWB/Cheney/Rumsfield completely miscalculated the invasion and what the aftermath would be. Sorry....that's just the facts.

It is too early to rank Clinton, G.W. or Obama... it takes a while. Also, most of the "worst" were before and after the single largest travesty ever to hit the nation... the Civil War.

That said, Obama will easily be in the worst catagory in a couple of decades and I bet Bush will climb up as perspective takes a hold of people's emotions.

LOL....wishful thinking. That is going to require a lot of rewriting of history. The facts speak for themselves....GWB drove this country to the brink of economic and moral bankruptcy.

This particular author would be otherwise quite congenial to you politically.

GWB handed over a victory. BHO threw it away.

I guess you would be correct if job losses were viewed more favorably than job creation, a lower stock market was viewed as preferable to a higher one, if rising unemployment was viewed as better than decreasing unemployment. I guess its all a matter of perspective.

pure BDS. show me why Bush was responsible for that stuff. one of the few things a president controls is his appointments to the USSC. Roberts and Alito vs. Quotamayor and Kagan. No comparison

Actually I could care less either way... I am just being objective as I see it. I don't hold a lot of stock in these polls as FDR was one of the worst presidents ever but always rates so high.

LOL....there was never a "victory" in Iraq. If Bush handed over a victory, we would have been out of Iraq when he left. What he handed over was a complete mess created by him and his administration. That's like saying the Johnson handed Nixon a victory in Vietnam. If GWB had never happened we would not have the mess in Iraq that we do today. Sorry...but that's a fact.

Yep. Not really a tough concept at all. Many conservatives are just butthurt obama is better than bush. Then again its not hard to be better than bush. He set the bar so low. It's almost as if bush wanted to be known as the worst potus in history. He probably knew he will never be the best so he just went for the worst. He succeeded if that was his goal.

They are the same ones that actually believe that 911 occurred on Clinton's watch and GWB was responsible for the capture and killing of Bin Laden. They live in a world where facts have to come with spin and asterisks.

Not just here, apparently.

Bush Now More Popular than Obama
Bush now more popular than Obama - CNNPolitics.com

Hahahahaha.

...and Carter is more popular than Bush. What's your point?

Kennedy Still Highest-Rated Modern President, Nixon Lowest
George W. Bush Least Popular Living Ex-President

Comparing an ex-president to a sitting president is always complete silliness. It is comparing apples to oranges. People like the view of Presidents in the rear view mirror...

http://fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytime...e-viewed-more-fondly-in-the-rear-view-mirror/

BTW. Bush's unfavorables remain the highest of all ex-presidents.

This has to be a joke right. He (Bush) put the country in the verge of bankruptcy and brought the whole world in to a great recession.

Nope. The Democrats did that.

Why did the economy tank? Because the left-wing sub-prime mortgage fiasco started under Slick Willy Clinton, and was overseen by Barney Frank, and it finally blew up under Bush.

Sept. 30, 1999 - New York Times - "Fannie Mae, the nation's biggest underwriter of home mortgages, has been under increasing pressure from the Clinton Administration to expand mortgage loans among low and moderate income people and felt pressure from stock holders to maintain its phenomenal growth in profits...."

The article even had a warning:

"In moving, even tentatively, into this new area of lending, Fannie Mae is taking on significantly more risk, which may not pose any difficulties during flush economic times. But the government-subsidized corporation may run into trouble in an economic downturn, prompting a government rescue similar to that of the savings and loan industry in the 1980's."

BINGO!

And confirmed by the NY Times.

I read a great deal which is why I understand the issues. I don't know of anyone (with at least a fringe of credibility) who would say that a victory in Iraq was ever achieved. The goalposts were constantly changed to measure success and the goals of the invasion changed more than Mitt Romney changed positions.

I don't know anyone from the right who believes that. That must be another Disney fairy tale.

There are people on this site that make those claims all the time. They like to rewrite history just like they are trying to do here.

Bush was president and the buck stops with him. You don't blame the guy before you 8 years into your presidency. And bush was the one who decided to give poor people home loans.
He thinks its his biggest accomplishment
Record of Achievement - Expanding Home Ownership
