Well, ghetto has historically meant a Jewish part of town... I don't know how it ever got associated with black people. I'd suggest knowing the person before you start using ghetto around them. See what context they'll use it in. We don't all use it equally. I use it for things that I consider rushed or borderline savage. For example, this morning I went for a run in the downtown area of the city I'm currently in, and saw a crackhead riding a bike while wearing a damn tank top, some of those old schools elastics with the huge plastic balls on them, and short shorts. My immediate reaction was "damn, that's some ghetto ass sh....". If I'm at another black person's house, I use it if we're pretty cordial. I don't just walk in and say something like "Damn, are they some rabbit antennas on your TV? That's some ghetto ass ****, my dude." So yeah, check before spec.

So don't casually interject the word in that usage in Facebook. Check.

That said, I do think this site is pretty damn ignorant. This site is basically assuming all black people all like the exact same things and this guy is trying to make himself the spokesman for a race. Different people like different things. Furthermore anyone dumb enough to follow his advice is goign to piss off anyone who uses the advice on. One if you are asking what type of music to play when a black friend is coming over, you have problems. Two if someone comes to your house, and you clearly dont like rap, and this moron running this site tells you to play certain music, it is going to offend who came. And when you say "oh i went to the ask a black guy site and he said to turn it on" you probably won't have a friend much longer. When a a person of a difference race is coming over, treat them like you would anyone else. It really isnt that hard.
Agreed, but... all too often blacks will treat other blacks with disdain and contempt if they act "too white"... i.e. calling them "Uncle Tom", "Oreo" (black on the outside, white on the inside), and so on... which suggests that black culture is supposed to be monolithic.

    Anonymously Ask A Black Person
I have black friends. I don't need to ask a web site.

I actually think the website is rather bold if not brave. The intent seems to be an attempt to have an open dialog on topics White people want to discuss but might be too afraid or embarrassed to ask a Black person directly. For example, one question I thought interesting was "Why do Black people have such crazy names?". Honestly, I've even asked that question myself because I find some of the names my fellow brotha's and sista's give to their children to be rather outlandish if not ridiculous (i.e., La'Quaysha...really!?! Good luck getting that printed on a door placard. ) I'm sure the parent (mom) was trying to make their child standout, add some uniqueness to their character, but wow!

which suggests that black culture is supposed to be monolithic.

The only people who think that any culture is monolithic are racists and bigots.

Some people's points are racist and bigoted.

Did you notice that I didn't mention your name?
