I personally don't think they should. There should be laws to protect them ( to an extent) but they should not have rights, but it seems many on youtube think they should have rights.

Do a little research. there are laws all over this planet to protect animals.

You are talking about something that is well under control.

Are all of those laws enforced?

You can't stop people from killing other people on this planet, get a grip.

Anytime animal rights interfere with my right to enjoy a nice rib-eye, that's where I draw the line.

Where is the logic other than in what people like. If most people want laws to protect animals? In some western societies the laws protect present animals better than absent persons. You would for instance go to jail for willfully letting an animal drown; at least a higher animal. Where the cut off downwards is? Who knows?

I'm a vegan and I don't think animals should have rights. Animals don't want rights. The concept of rights is a human construct. I am all for animal welfare laws and laws against animal cruelty.

But to me with rights come responsibility and accountability. And you can't hold an animal responsible or accountable for their actions. A dog may know he will get punished if he pees inside but he doesn't know why he should be punished for it.

I might be willing to make an exception for a handful of species among the apes and cetacea who may demonstrate a higher level of understanding. But even then the rights I think they should be granted are dwarved by the number of rights I think humans should have. The right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness? Sure, why not? The right to an education or healthcare? That is ridiculous.

I support some limited forms of animal rights. The reason is squarely aimed at the food industry.

If we are going to subjugate an animal for our use, then we should also accept the responsibility of its humane treatment. I believe they should be entitled to a minimum standard of reasonable living conditions.

Its one thing to kill animals for food, but animals should have rights and a certain quality of life up to that point far, far beyond what we have today. Whether you call them rights or protection or whatever I do think more should be being done to improve the life of animals.

Why do you think the humane slaughtering of an animal for food and proper animal husbandry are always exclusive? Just because we eat meat, it does not necessarily mean the animal was reared in a most horrendous way and had a horrible torturous death. Unfortunately, in today's age of factory farming, mistreatment of animals *IS* the norm. This is why animals should have rights. They deserve to be treated in the most humane way, even if they will eventually end upon a dinner plate.
Let's see if we can find a solution. It's something that I think is, frankly, maybe not as difficult as people have thought over the years.

A Bill of Rights for Animals, sounds like a quick way to get us to a Zombie Apocalypse. Who all is ready?

Re: Should Animals being given rights?

It's not a matter of giving rights to animals but instead it's about not giving humans the right to torture and abuse them. Animal cruelty and negligence should be a punishable offense. The more hideous and negligent the crime the more punishment there should be.
