BBQing is ok.
We should remain quiet and respectful.

Diplomacy is the art of saying 'nice doggy" until you can find a gun.
Why wouldn't barbecue be ok? Is there something somehow sacred about ovens and microwaves that permits their use on this day of honor? People pick the weirdest things to get outraged about.
i get that there are some people who will look for any excuse to have a party, and that to them, the party part is all that is important.
but for most others, if they are aware of the holiday, then they will at least take a few moments to acknowledge the occasion in some small way.
drinking and grilling is not necessarily disrespectful. my grandfather served, and before he died, he asked that there be a luncheon after the funeral that was a "celebration of his life". we drank and ate and raised our glasses once or twice and toasted to his memory.
as long as you took just a little bit of time to reflect on the occasion, i see nothing wrong with making it a celebration. after all, they died so to protect our freedom to do whatever we want

- Better to be a pessimist before, and an optimist afterwords.
