Is a man who is decent and helps his fellow man a fool ? I find this to be strange, even perverted ..
I am not a Jimmy Carter fan .. but , one must admire his humanity .. In order for a man to be a successful politician, particularly on the world stage, he must be a bit of a bastard .. There are too many who use an "evil rulebook" .. here and abroad ..

I'm not a Carter fan either, and I completely disagree with his Israel/Palestine views, but I do think he's a decent human being and intends no malice.

Then I'd say you have a problem. The man is a bigot and yes a fool. To answer your question sure he can help his fellow man all he wants it doesn't exonerate him.

I don't admire his humanity, he was a fool then and he's a fool now and in death he will be a fool, regardless of how many times he swings him hammer for HFH.
“I think if Thomas Jefferson were looking down, the author of the Bill of Rights, on what’s being proposed here, he’d agree with it. He would agree that the First Amendment cannot be absolute.” - Chuck Schumer (D). Yet, Madison and Mason wrote the Bill of Rights, according to Sheila Jackson Lee, 400 years ago. Yup, it's a fact.

I guess it would have to be Kennedy... his assassination kinda put a damper on my 11th birthday.

I became acutely "aware" before graduating from high school..... facing a draft kinda makes you stand up and pay attention.

I am not qualified to comment on his personal decency and intentions. But Jimmy Carter was one of the worst Presidents in US history (not the worst, but he is in the bottom 5). And he is the absolute worst ex-President in US History.

Nixon. My parents voted for him and were so hurt when he resigned. That's when the 2 party concept first really occurred to me.

Once I started understanding the concept of politics properly, I REALLY got into, REALLY quickly. I was extremely active by the time I started high school, which was 2 or 3 years into Bush II's first term.
Pretty much the same with me, though I'm a couple years older. 9/11 happened at the beginning of my freshman year of high school, and suddenly there was political discussion everywhere. It was on the periphery around me before that, and I had been aware of some of the insanity involved in the 2000 election, but I didn't really get it until war, racism, religious violence, religious bigotry, and the illegitimacy of Bush's presidency not merely being a bad thing but possibly a disastrous thing, was suddenly on everyone's lips.

I imagine the beginning of Bush jr's presidency marked this turned point for a lot of young people at the time.

At least Carter didn't get us into a foreign war.

He did prefer acts of war against the US to go unanswered, thereby gravely damaging the international security order.
