I am not going to put a maybe or other I do not know as a poll option.Either you support this or you do not.

As far as I am concerned no trade deal should even be kept secret. When it is kept secret it appears to be intentional in order to keep people from voicing any concern about it until it is too late.
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"

I can't think of a reason it should be secret.

Obviously the negotiations themselves need to be conducted in secret. That is the only way to have real meaningful negotiations about substantive issues that require compromises on all sides.

Senators have access to the developing negotiations, and most of the Democratic Party opposes TPP.

I'm curious what brought this up. I know, here in Canada, pretty much any and all trade deals are negotiated between countries at the bargaining table and these meetings aren't televised or reported verbatim, so you could argue they're "secret", but the terms of the discussions are pretty much always report upon including what areas of concern Canada has and what sticking points exist, etc. And whenever a deal is reached it requires parliamentary approval and is debated both publicly and politically at that time.
A Canadian conservative is one who believes in limited government and that the government should stay out of our wallets and out of our bedrooms.

The public has the right to know what their elected officials are doing with other countries and what deals are being worked out. The Obama trade deal is being reported as being secret. So I wanted to know what people's thoughts are on it.

This is not the first time such a thing has happened recently.
