    "the greatest country"

kinda depends on what that means to YOU

to me.....yes, it is, and hopefully always will be the best place on earth to live

the combination of our freedoms, economy, and people make it that way

i've been through over 30 other countries all over the globe

i like them for some things, and dislike them for others

the question i would pose would be

"is there anywhere else you would rather live?"

to that, my answer is an easy no. Places i love to go and visit.....but this is home.....and i kinda like it

I love America obviously. It's badass. A lot of good things still come from here that other countries want and envy. Nearly every major thing we have had happen politically, socially, and economically had originated from America, but the past 20+ years or so it has been on a decline. Instead of mimicking what other countries that mimicked us in the first place, we call them socialist. I do believe America used to be the best country in the world. I still think it's at least in the top 5, but we need to do a lot to make it #1 again. And those Americans here that don't take pride in your country shame on you.

The US might not be the best country in the world, but it's easily the best of the big countries. Which big country is better?

I can't think of much of any metric in which the US still leads, except prison population, military spending, and billionaires. We have the best colleges for the time being i guess...

K-12, environment, debt, health care, GDP, per capita income, crime all come in nowhere near 1st. You'd think by the level of patriotism that more would at least show up to vote but nope. Whenever we do accomplish something, like we may legalize SSM soon, we're like the 17th country to do it.

It's unfortunate but undeniable. America is in a steady decline

I think every American should vote for that the US is the greatest country in the World. Because for Americans that should be the natural feeling and should not be influenced by "objective" facts and figures because "the greatest country in the world" is a feeling for most people.

I for one think the Netherlands is the greatest country in the world, especially to live in, but that is purely based on the fact that I am Dutch and proud of it. I love it and I love living in the Netherlands and would never ever even contemplate leaving it.

But that is not an objective thing, it is an emotive/emotional thing, a feeling of pride and love for your country. So Will might be right that "objectively" there are countries who are also great, but from a feeling, it is wrong, for your feeling it should still be option one, the greatest country ever.

It depends on what is important to you, I guess. I choose to live here instead of anywhere else because it is where my family and friends live. And it is where I keep all my things. I am also "used" to it. So it is comfortable.

But if I were to write a list of the things I find most important in a country, no, the US would likely not come out on top. Out overall quality of life is not the highest in the world, though we do have the best craft beer and movies.

The US is, by a wide margin, the most sought immigrant destination in the world.

Hey I am Dutch and I love/respect a lot of things the US was and is to itself, it's citizens and to the world as a whole. I may love my own country more but any self respecting person should be saying that of his/her own country.

And yes, sadly politicians in the US think that a limited bit of sharing the wealth around is an evil and bad word. Taxes is a curse word and local government use proceeds from tickets and court fines to balance their budgets because they do not have the guts to do it the proper way around, by taxes, fees and balancing the budget.
