    Working on poll.
It depends on at you consider "suffering." Animals are companions, but they are also food. I advocate for a quick and painless death, as do most hunters. Anyone who gets enjoyment out of watching an animal suffer in its last breathes is a sociopath. Most of us who hunt go for the quick and clean kill to provide food for our families. Much more humane than factory farming.

It can be said about anything that some people get judgmental and "they" (a sort of mythical group rarely observed) say all sorts of wacky things.

My grandmother used to catch cats in traps and pitchfork them with the garden tiller through the holes of the trap. Possums + racoons too. That said, I do feel bad for animals. I do think there's too many cats though and that more of them need to be killed because they're killing off all the native bird species and it's a disaster and cats really are out of control.

There was something wrong with your grandmother.

Oh now I don't think that's true. You have to keep perspective that many older Americans grew up in rural areas with different cultures and views towards the killing of animals deemed "pests".

My aunt and great grandmother (still alive) trap squirrels in those rectangular mesh cages in their backyards and then shoot them through the cage and then freeze them in the freezer in the garage so they don't smell until they can have the trash take them away when it comes.

Taking a sharp object to a helpless and caged cat, stabbing it repeatedly, torturing it with a slow and painful death is not ok to me. Although I don't have cats, I'm glad she's not my neighbor.

What an awesome, heartwarming story. Why not just burn it alive in the cage for grins?

    What the actual ****....

    It's a 92 year old woman..

I think it's safe to say she's doing it (and has done it for her entire life, thousands++ of squirrels) out of cultural reasons and tradition and not "grins".

Be realistic. It's just dead frozen squirrels after all.

And a few dozen (or however many) slowly tortured to death cats. I wouldn't have her to my house to dog sit, let's just leave it at that.

In many cases, most in fact the group you call "mythical" can be observed right here at DP in action, nothing "mythical" about that. And yes they do say all sorts of wacky things and get judgemental. Again nothing "mythical" about that either.
