The bolded points out a contradiction in your thinking. A creature who has a right to 'the possession of their own life' has that right violated even if the death is as 'quick and painless as possible.'

I put forth the wikipedia definition of animal rights, and I never said I supported the killing of animals, unless I worded some wrong.. I acknowledge it will happen, and if it does, it needs to be done quick and painlessly.

And all animal rights activists agree: - End cruelty/pain

And they even disagree what qualifies as cruelty and pain... That is kinda my point.. I agree we should have tougher/more regulations on factory farms, but a lot of animal rights activists say those types of facilities should be completely shut down.. Something I cannot agree too.

Because there is, or was, the potential to understand rights. Animals are dumb, there's no point giving them rights.

Animals aren't dumb, come on... Is a severely autistic child able to understand rights?

I think they need to be shut down immediately unless they drastically change almost everything.

Quick question and you don't have to answer it, I'll understand. Are you a total vegan?

I did read it, and it fails miserably. Maybe you should look at actual science.

No it does not. It says nothing is conclusive yet, but if you actually read the article you would see some entomologists disagree. Either way they think it is possible and most likely.

So again ...

Only the cute fuzzy ones? What about fish? They feel pain and some like Manta's etc are very smart. What about lower mammals and reptiles...

Or only the cute fuzzy ones?

Yes thats a realistic goal from a fringe group of lunatics. Seriously, that is never going to happen, period.

Definitely not the cute and fuzzy ones, which is why I have rats, etc..

Yeah, people had your line of thinking for many things this country has done, and we've managed to do them.

What line of thinking would that be? Humans are omnivores, and we eat meat and plants. We are not going to give up our meat supply because a few yokels feel bad about it.

Rats are cute and fuzzy. They are mammals. You have still not answered my question.

The line of thinking that something would never change and something being an "unrealistic goal"
Yes, we are omnivores, but we are perfectly capable of going without meat. I never said we need to give up our meat supply, we have alternatives, and we could just cut back.

Total vegan? No, I consume insects.

By the way I just got a chuckle when I thought of this thread and your "free range" children thread. Ironic no?

I have, if an animal exhibits sentience or pain not in relevance to nociception, which is what you call "pain" in insects (wrong) then they deserve these rights.

I just noticed that, :lamo
(Most "free range" is bull**** by the way.)

OK you can live in bunny cutesy world, lol. I am good with it.

I know. Free range costs more. Go figure.

I mean that those who label themselves as free range are usually full of **** when you see what the "free range" is.

I give up, then again what do you expect from someone who supports communism. A failed system on all fronts.

People with Down Syndrome are "dumb".

I won't say that you're saying animals have a right to live, since we like to eat some of them, but you ARE saying they have a right to not be harmed unnecessarily. Qualifications regarding ability to understand are neither here nor there. We still advocate those unable to understand some level of right of protection.
