Although ordinary citizens can vote in national elections, the candidates must have funding that is backed by organizations that are controlled by those with wealth. As such the choices are limited.

Hell yes, anybody that says no is ignorant or just plain stupid..

Absolutley. “There’s class warfare, all right, but it’s my class, the rich class, that’s making war, and we’re winning.”- Warren Buffet.

Dont belive Warren? Here:

Can't wait for someone to argue that they don't have too much power... Will be a real fun time.

Somebody will come along any minute now! :lamo

Of course they do... and it has been that way throughout history. Wealth and political clout tend to go hand in hand, one way or another. Especially extreme wealth, as in the billionaires.

Like George Soros, to name one.

This is why I truly believe money/capitalism/capital/w.e and democracy cannot co-exist, when money is used to acquire power, gain attention, etc, etc, etc..

Sheldon Adelson and the Koch Brothers as well.

That said, I think they have too much power and something should be done about it.

The wealthy have power proportional to their level of wealth. The non-wealthy have power proportional to their number. The wealthy currently have better organizational skills. This changes as balance of power skews. It's a bit like a pendulum in swing.

The wealthy have more money, money is used to acquire power and controls the political scene, organizational skills play a tiny part in it.

I disagree. The non wealthy have a strong dependence on the wealthy for their survival, their information, and their views.

what the whine about the wealthy fail to understand is that the rich are not a monolithic force. For every free market "rich despite the government" type there is a "rich because of the government nanny-stater who cancels him out. People like the Kochs cancel out scum like Soros. its pretty much a wash

'Course they do. They didn't buy the power, though- they didn't even take it. It was given to them on a platter by poor idiots who equate wealth with worth. "He's worth $3billion!" they say and when the billionaire tells them that global warming is a myth they leap in their thousands and chant, "Myth! Myth! Myth!". Another billionaire tells them that government health care is unworkable and will ruin the country and the poor idiots denounce the best improvement in their lives since the Model T. A billionaire tells them that unions are wrong and that moving factories to Mexico is right and that minimum wages will destroy the economy and, well, by God if he's so rich he must be smart! Right?
That's power, when you can make people believe that right is wrong and bad is good.

And the first one arrives. It is unquestionable, no matter how you try to word it, that wealth is the means to power in politics, and pretty much everything else. Cancels out Soros? This is about the wealthy's influence on politics, if you don't think that exists, and I think you actually voted No.... You mean 2 bad groups cancel out each other? This doesn't happen, it's why the koch brothers influence many things with vast wealth, along with soros. Jesus. There is a reason being noticed takes millions of dollars, that corporate run media decides which candidates to give attention to, that the country is framed in such a way as to where people blame the poor instead of the wealthy for what they have caused, the wealthy have way too much ****ing power.

Absolutely we do!

We have the opportunity to use secret banks that pay us 1500% interest on our money without even having to deposit it. We have lunch with politicians who do our every bidding. If we want wages to go down we just drop a hint and BINGO, they secretly reduce wages by creating mysterious tax changes that only help us while screwing the poor. We have a secret internet that we use to communicate and we get emails every time some poor person gets a little uppity. It's a pretty cool gig when you get right down to it.

Trying to add ridiculous talk to a real issue doesn't change facts.

You can try to joke about the issue all you want, it's a simple fact that the wealthy have more power in regards to almost everything within this world. Tell me I'm wrong. Politics is just one example.

Much envy I sense in this one Master Yoda

Seduced by the jealous side of the force he has been Obi Wan

Both are scum, like most corporations, both continue to exist, and both still do what they do, I don't see your argument.

sure we have more power. we have better cars, bigger houses, prettier wives and better tennis backhands than the Hoi Polloi. BFD, the issue is "too much power" and that is not true
