I am in the 27% , so I think we are still a "Christian" nation ... so much depends on definitions .. and the political strength of the religious .

Only to the deluded bigots who wish to force their faith based homophobia and "ethics" onto everyone else.

I see those who desire a this nation to be Christian, not only in majority but in law, no better than those who would force us to suffer Sharia law.

That was George Washington politics, talking to a Muslim audience. One can find plenty of Washington quotes aimed at domestic audiences that have a contradictory tone to that.

That would only be those ones that don't appreciate the Christian influence pressed upon them.

The following quotes prove you incorrect:

"I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people build a wall of separation between Church & State."

    - Thomas Jefferson, letter to the Danbury Baptists (1802)

“Question with boldness even the existence of a God; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason, then that of blindfolded fear.”

    - Thomas Jefferson, letter to Peter Carr (1787)

“If I could conceive that the general government might ever be so administered as to render the liberty of conscience insecure, I beg you will be persuaded, that no one would be more zealous than myself to establish effectual barriers against the horrors of spiritual tyranny, and every species of religious persecution.”

    - George Washington, letter to the United Baptist Chamber of Virginia (1789)

"During almost fifteen centuries has the legal establishment of Christianity been on trial. What has been its fruits? More or less, in all places, pride and indolence in the clergy; ignorance and servility in the laity; in both, superstition, bigotry and persecution."

    - James Madison, General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Virginia (1785)
"The end of democracy and the defeat of the American Revolution will occur when government falls into the hands of lending institutions and moneyed incorporations." `Thomas Jefferson

"No nation has ever existed or been governed without religion. Nor can be. The Christian religion is the best religion that has been given to man and I, as Chief Magistrate of this nation, am bound to give it the sanction of my example."

President Jefferson even closed presidential documents with “In the year of our Lord Christ”

He too has plenty of quotes that show his indifference toward religion, though it was politically useful as your second quote demonstrates.

Yes, in the sense that the majority of the country is Christian. No, in the sense that its laws are categorically secularist in nature. I can't vote because the term is ridiculously vague.
