No. What a telling notion, though.

I rather be given an actual reason to vote for somebody instead of being forced by law to do so.
The GOP loves standards. They love standards so much, they got two of them.

    I voted NO.

I would like to see some innovative ways to get the half that do not vote to actually vote. How about a prize where some civic minded people with hefty bank accounts get together and pledge to throw in a buck for every voter in a national election and ten lucky voters get to divide up the prize? That might encourage some folks to get out and vote.

There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.... John Rogers

Why am I always the first one to vote for the stupid poll option?

For politicians, yes, it should be mandatory.

Scratch that, new question: why am I always the ONLY one to vote for the stupid poll option?

Bribing people to vote is just as bad as forcing people to vote.People should vote because they believe in the candidate they are voting for. Not because of some law forcing them, a bribe or some idiotic celebrity telling people they should vote.Quality over quantity.
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"

Hell no.It is bad enough that there are plenty of politically ignorant people voting. We should not want people who are not even remotely interested in politics being forced to vote. You think these people who are forced to vote going to look at ontheissues.org , votesmart.org or some other similar website to research the candidates?
