Should Daylight Savings Time Be Abolished?

I think this business of changing the time is whack. They should set in one way and leave it there. Whose stupid idea was it anyway?

I think that the idea was to try to prevent commuting (and school travel) in darkness.

I don't care which we do- I'd just like to see one or the other, and stop screwing with it. In this day and age, there is no reason for a switch to DST, and it just blows my mind that some people seem to believe it actually gives them more time in a day.

I vote yes and this is one of the polls where I wish I knew how to manipulate them because there would 3.5 billion yeses already

Back when Nixon was President they put it in place early. The so called reason was to "save energy."

Well, this is one thing we definitely agree on. I especially hate the spring time change when they set the time up.

Re: Should Daylight Savings Time Be Abolished?

DST no longer does what it was supposed to do, which was to allow for some energy savings by having work hours and daylight hours match up better during the wars, iirc. Some have claimed it was for farmers, but farmers have been denying that for decades, so the only other reason I've ever heard was that Nazis started it during one of the WWs and then the whole world picked it up. Now that lighting is so much more prevalent and things like air conditioning are common place, there seems now to be more cost with DST than without it in recent studies. It really should be stopped and I'm amazed at how global the DST bs remains.

move the clocks forward an hour, and leave them there permanently. falling back for a couple months is less than useless.

Re: Should Daylight Savings Time Be Abolished?

This question gets asked twice a year, and I answer it the same way twice a year. Not just yes, but hell yes.

I would prefer to have the daylight savings time shift in place year round, since daylight hours in the evening are more useful to me than ones in the morning, but I honestly don't care which route they go with as long as they stick to one and quit changing it.

If you set a man on fire, he'll be warm for the rest of his life.

I find the morning more useful, but could live with that as long as they left it that way.
