I've never met either man, so I can't really comment beyond what can be perceived about public persona. But I think it's fair to say that we wouldn't know much about either one if they hadn't entered the political arena.
Well that's just it... Obama owes his political success largely to his charisma (winning the presidency with basically no experience and no record of success other than his academic degrees), whereas Cheney, having very little charisma, made his way in politics by being a very valued member of several administrations - youngest chief of staff in history, secretary of defense, and of course VP, as well as a six-time Congressman, house minority whip, and CEO of a major corporation.

And despite all that, he got stuck in the back seat in AF-1. Not very smart, eh?

Yep. No one in their right mind would vote for that idiot for President.

I think they are likely both very smart men.

Obama or Cheney?

Very tough question. Both are brilliant men. They have spectacularly different sets of moral values, but that is not what the OP asks.

The best way to guess is to compare academic achievements...

Cheney- dropped out of Yale due to bad grades, eventually got a BA and MA at University of Wyoming. Bailed on a PhD dissertation at University of Wisconsin.

Obama- well, maybe we don't need to go further.

so using that, Bush is much smarter than Gore and Kerry

Gore dropped out of divinity studies and law school at Vanderbilt

Kerry went to the fourth best law school in Boston while Bush went to the best Business School in the USA.

that's a stupid measure of intelligence. Obama never would have been accepted into Columbia or Harvard if he had been the same color as Cheney

I think academic attainments are a poor way to measure success. But if you want to play that little game, let's talk about a President whose college records remain shrouded and the paucity of his publications. ;)

Cheney is the same colour as Cheney, is that why he washed out at Yale? Obama's summa cum laude at Harvard wasn't AA, nor was the presidency of the Harvard Law Review.
It's kind of futile trying to guess at intelligence by decades-old academic achievements but if you know a better way, I'm all ears. I suppose we could just go with the truism that the truest test of another's intelligence is the degree to which he agrees with you.

Not success, intelligence. You know a better way to guess?

Obama only got into Columbia and Harvard due to his color. The smartest guy in my class at Yale didn't get passed freshman year. He got caught up on drugs. at age 14 he scored a perfect 1600 on his SAT. He also had the highest score in the country in a well known competitive math exam that was open to graduate students in PhD programs. He had the highest GPA in the history of a well known extremely prestigious prep school that was founded before the civil war. yet he flunked out of Yale. The assistant Dean of Admissions told me that this man was the most qualified student he had seen apply to Yale in the 6 years he had been the AD.

Cheney has had a very successful career and that counts far more than what he did as a 19 year old

Oh, I get it! He should have married like Clarence Thomas!!!!

You seem to have a rather peculiar fixation with Cheney based on your avatar and posts. what is the cause of this obsession?

What is so spectacularly different about their moral values?

Not success, intelligence. You know a better way to guess?

I don't think academic attainments are necessarily a way to measure intelligence either. There are many, many people who are very good at academic work, sometimes even brilliant, and yet are as dumb as a box of rocks in most areas of life including successful relationships and common sense.

Oh, I get it! He should have married like Clarence Thomas!!!!

Well, I don't even get what you were trying to say because you said it so poorly. Do you mean that Cheney should have married as Clarence Thomas did? (He did.)

Or do you mean that he should have married Clarence Thomas or someone "like" him? (Whatever that means, and no, please don't tell me.)

Moral values? I don't know.
