Respectfully disagree. A woman who falsely claims rape has character and/or psychological problem and should face consequences or get treatment. On the other hand, a rapists is an evil person who has committed probably the most heinous crime possible short of murder or deliberately disfiguring or crippling someone for life. I do not see them as equal. Everybody is different I guess.

Likewise, IMO, being actually racist is far worse than being falsely accused of it by someone who probably has little credibility.

Btw. Another topic but very often this issue is characterized by political tribalism where right and wrong is less of a factor and whose side are the principles on is how people align their support or opposition.

No.

Being a rapist is far worse than falsely accusing someone of rape.

That said I think penalties for falsely accusing someone of a crime are necessary. Or perhaps better the ability to sue news organizations who portray a person as guilty before they are convicted. That might cut down on the "guilty until proven innocent" trend that I see in high-profile cases. Or even worse, people considering a person guilty or innocent no matter what the courts say.

The question assumes the person accusing someone, some group or some practice of racism as well as the person, group or practice of being racist is the personal opinion of the accuser/observer and no trial by jury has occurred to establish proof beyond a reasonable doubt, just like in real life.

Until this issue is fixed I choose to not participate in polls (in the Polls Forum). I will still participate in the discussions.

Knowing, of course, that my definition of 'broken' is different than that of those who own and/or maintain the site, so I may never participate in a poll in this forum again. :shrug:

I think we're all pretty much unanimously in agreement with you that it's highly annoying, I've heard it from multiple people now. My understanding though is the site admin can't really do much about it?

It is my understanding that they have it set up this way on purpose, as it attracts new members. I can't say if that actually happens that way or not, however.
 
Being accused of a racist is only terrible when you are an actual racist, because if you are not a racist you have nothing to worry about, haters going to hate so to speak.

Anyway, the accusers can always be shown to be liars by the truth and that is only possible if you are not an actual racist.

I just don't understand how any intelligent person would think that would advance their position. I remember some years ago on another forum there was a poll asking people who they will vote for in the race for governor. An activist(s) stuffed the ballot and his guy was ahead but almost 1000 votes in a forum there gets about 100 votes in a compelling poll. His guy lost by a landslide and his supporter actually did nothing but humiliate and embarrass the candidate on a forum that was being monitored by the local media.
