This is after delivering the oath for the new Defense Secretary Ashton Carter.
I don't know - what was he doing? Patting her on the shoulders and telling her something for like a split second isn't hte same as leaving his hands there, feeling her shoulders as he whispered something slow and long in her ear.

One is just whatever - the other is the type of thing I will physically shrug away from even in front of others. ASMR effect and all - can't stand that ****.

Photo op, showing solidarity. That's one thing. Hanging on my wife while I give what is my acceptance speech is another.
I guess manners is just plain out the window all the way to the white house now.

I don't see anything in the rules expressly forbidding it.

So I guess I'd like to know what you mean by "it's looked down on here"?

I say what I mean and mean what I say.

What is creepy to me about that picture is that it lacks what should be obvious decorum. I don't care if one of my friend's husbands hugs me or jokingly gooses me in a social setting. I don't care what Biden does with his friends in social settings. This wasn't a social setting. This was at the swearing in of the country's new Defense Secretary. There is a massive distinction.
I know, but when have you known Joe Biden to think before he speaks or acts? Right or wrong, he has always been and will always be just Joe doing whatever pops into his head at the moment. I just can't believe he was playing to the cameras or even thinking about the cameras at the time, and he certainly wasn't thinking about how it might look in a photo. I think he was just being himself.

Nobody has ripped the VP more than I have when I think he is off base or destructive in what he says here and around the world. Like I said before, I was once a fan but haven't been a fan for some time now. But here I think he's getting a bum rap. Should he worry more about how it might look? Sure. Will he think about it next time? Given his track record, unlikely.

What does the picture in post #14 have to do with anything? That isn't Ash Carter in the top picture with his arm around Jill Biden. Am I confused?

"Joe just being Joe" isn't a reason not to point out that this was not a social setting or a cocktail party, and the 2nd most powerful man in the world should have decorum.

Manners except for show have been out the window at the White House and elsewhere for some time now. But as I responded to TB, I think this is just Joe being Joe. Unassuming, honest, unaware of the camera, completely spontaneous, and typical for him. Because his motives in such matters are so innocent, I think it just never occurs to him how it might look to somebody else.

If he hasn't figured that out in 72 years, I doubt he's going to change now.

    I'll tell you what dude.

If I ever make friends with your wife I'm going to treat her the same way I treat all of my other female friends.

Understand that I am not rude or lascivious in any way to my friends, but as I alluded to above I certainly accept a great deal more personal contact among friends, even friends of the opposite sex, and even married friends of the opposite sex, than you do.

And if you feel froggy you go right ahead and leap.

I like fistfights almost as much as I like women, so no hair off of my ass.

If you're friends with my wife and you hug her goodbye at the end of a BBQ, or if you kiss her on the cheek when the two of you meet, or if you dance with her at a formal event, or if you whisper in her ear when I'm being appointed to an office of the federal executive branch, I'm just fine with that.

Those are just things that emotionality stable men who are secure with themselves and in their sexual relationships don't get rattled about.

If those things scare you, and you feel like to need to lash out in order to establish dominance over your wife and the men around her, then get to it.

Some of us don't really fear you.

Why are you saying that Ash Carter had his arm around Jill Biden? And where is a picture of this event? The Bidens and Carters aren't social friends, unless there is some evidence to the contrary that you've seen.
