The Special Relationship, according to The Concise Oxford Dictionary of Politics, is "a term used to describe post‐Second World War Anglo‐American relations, characterized by amiable diplomatic, military, economic, and cultural ties. The existence of shared history, language, cultural heritage, and close commercial relations in the pre‐twentieth century significantly facilitated the formation of this relationship."

Do you support the existence of the "Special Relationship" and, if so, do you feel that enough is being done currently to foster stronger relations between the two juggernauts of the Anglosphere?

Of course, it's been a good ride, let's keep it that way.

With that said, all hail the Anglosphere!

Very dependable, those Brits. Not always nice. Worth fighting for and with. The kind you want on your side.

Relations - with whom?

Countries, individuals? Vague definition.

We're very sorry about that asshat in the White house who sent back the Churchill bust.

Churchill bust welcomed back to US Capitol after Obama 'snub' - Telegraph

And we are also sorry for people who keep misrepresenting what actually happened: Ted Cruz’s claim that one of Obama’s ‘very first acts’ was returning a bust of Churchill - The Washington Post

To sum up, the Churchill bust loaned to Bush was returned, but a virtually similar bust by the same artist resides in White House residence. There is no evidence that Obama personally decided to return the bust; given the economic crisis at the time, one imagines he had bigger issues on his mind. Perhaps someone on his staff should have recognized the symbolic value in retaining the bust, but the odds are the machinery of the transition just moved forward on its own.

One of three countries I would be willing to fight and protect or have my daughter fight and protect under all circumstances. The others being Canada and Australia.

Now that I'll toast to.

Abide with me; fast falls the eventide;
The darkness deepens; Lord with me abide.
When other helpers fail and comforts flee,
Help of the helpless, O abide with me.

It is certainly not a vague definition.

Ha ha. So far the vibe I'm getting from this thread is:

"Yes, white people just like me, white people just like me, white people just like me."

Absolutely not! we should invade Britain and make them 13 American colonies! MURICA!!!!

jk.

Why would anyone oppose? It may be fun to jab a bit at the Brits, but they've been our second closest (I would call Canada the 1st) friends for about a century now.

UK has plenty of diversity in its population....

I'm not sure what this comment of yours means, truth be told.

Well, it was sent back since it was loaned to Bush, and yes there is another one. There is no evidence Obama even knew about it before people started to spazz out.

We all know Obama knows nothing. He'll be the first to say it was never brought to his "let me make this clear" attention.

It is not something that normally would be handled by a president. This is stuff the regular white house staff handles. Despite all the efforts to try and turn the Churchill bust into something, it is, like so many things, nothing at all.

that's the problem today, everyone uses the terminology "the <fill in name of president here> administration announced" it's like we think the president is actually reviewing the many thousands of descisions that his staff of several hundred people plus their staffs are making.... and is fully responsible for all of them....
