Did the size of our government decline when Ronald Reagan was POTUS?

Everything's relative. Keep in mind US political lean may be further left or right of international leans of the same name.

Can I assume you were an infantryman in the Army? Or are you still?

I'm "slightly conservative" and nobody thinks that about me. If they do, they're an idiot. Why worry about idiots?
There is nothing demonstrably true that religion can provide the world that cannot be achieved more rationally through entirely secular means.

I no longer buy that, in hindsight.
Really? Do you think Ronald Reagan was a closet statist--that he in fact wanted a larger federal government? If so, it's odd that he would have his whole career lying about that, when there was no reason whatever for him to hide his real political philosophy.

Everyone wants a bigger government, we all just differ on which parts we want bigger.

If the collectivist dim bulbs in the lumpenproletariat were taught anything about Goldwater in the course of their indoctrination in political correctness in public schools, odds on it was that he was a fascist warmonger who hated black people and wanted to nuke innocent little girls, as they sat outside picking daisies.

Most people remember Goldwater as the guy who lost to LBJ.

If by "government" you mean the government of the U.S., of course that is not true. I would like to see a far smaller and less powerful federal government, much more like the one our Constitution designs and authorizes. Part of the reason collectivists resent this country, even while they choose to take up space in it, is that its Constitution does not authorize the centralized control of the economy they want. Their solution, like Mr. Obama's, is just to ignore the Constitution and have increasingly lawless government.

Necessity will always dictate the expansion of government.
