My wife would live in Banff beginning tomorrow if she had the chance.

Lake Louise is something else. We've been there several times but have never stayed there. We keep saying we will but we haven't yet.
Go up the road a tad to Jasper- less people as the Trans Canada highway runs by Banff.
    Maligne Canyon, a beautiful walk.
Some photos and they also do tours when it is frozen over.

Jasper - Bear Hill Lodge- Cabins,
in town, railway track off a tad, elk every morning. We stay there each time we go. Took the kids & grand kids this past summer. They had a ball.
    Bear Hill Lodge - Home
    Rafting is a hoot.
As to beer- mass produced sucks, craft beers are preferred.
Poutine, mmmmmmmmmm Good, washed down with a beer.

Montreal- try the Barby Barn for ribs. People are lined up to get in.

Thanks for the suggestions. We will try them. Jasper is fantastic. We really like poutine and were surprised to find so many varieties in Quebec. Barby Barns is definitely on my list.

They are cool, my grandfather was a native New Brunswick-ian. Only thing that bothers me is how every one of them puts Canadian flags on their luggage when they travel. Are they THAT afraid of being hijacked?

Oddly enough, a good number of US citizens put Cdn flags on their backpacks as well. Why is that?

I've got a pretty good dog, keeps to itself mostly but every now and then it comes and puts it's head in my lap wanting to be petted and have it's back scratched.

Every Canadian I ever met has tried to surrender ;-)

Just kidding. Very nice people. I worked along side a Canadian sergeant on an assignment and we always busted each other's chops. I ended up visiting him and his wife in Canada and had a really great time.

I think so, but I am probably wrong.

I go to great pains to be a traveler, not a tourist.
