What are you talking about? No one said it should be the law of the land to suspend someone from the practice of law for mere allegations. Please make some sense.

No that is a distortion. What I am saying is that the NFL has adopted the harsh policy of suspending NFL players for mere allegations in order to combat the image in the mind of the public that black NFL players are thugs. The reason however is that it is because NFL players are public figures and role models and should therefore be held to a higher standard. My point is that if that is the case, a public figure and role model such as Alan Dershowitz should be held to the same high standards, and given who he is and how intelligent he is, one would expect that he would be held to a higher standard.

So? The harsh NFL policy was the result of public outrage. Why doesn't the public expect Mr Dershowitz to be held to the same standard as NFL players.

Because he such a prominent public figure, he serves as a role model for youth.

The think is this, NFL players are suspended for mere allegations of misconduct, and the reason given is that it is because they are public figures and therefore serve as role models for youth. However, although it is not officially stated, there is also the perception among the public that black NFL players are thugs which the NFL is trying to combat which is why they have implemented such harsh punishment for mere allegations.

The question is therefore this, should not Alan Dershowitz be temporarily suspended from the practice of law since he is such a high profile public figure? Or is it that the underlying negative racial stereotypes about black NFL players have resulted in double standards?
I am not sure if he should be decertified from practicing law (and as far as I know nobody suggested those sports players should be prevented from being rehired to playing in the minor leagues, which would be the closest equivalent to debarring a lawyer), but he could certainly be fired for the same reasons the sports people were.

    What was Dershowitz arrested for?

Or do you think being accused in a lawsuit is the same thing as an arrest. By the way, you do know that Rice and Peterson were arrested, yes? For crimes, by the police. Crimes caught on camera. Crimes with photographic evidence of victims. Not lawsuits by Jane Doe #3.

And video and photographic evidence, and admissions of wrongdoings on their parts. What evidence do you have against Dershowitz? Are you Jane Doe #3.....and do you have pictures to share?

I honestly fail to understand why you do not see the double standard here. Actually I think it's ridiculous to hold NFL players to a higher standard than someone like Dershowitz. Dershowitz is a smart guy and has influence on things that are really meaningful. If anything Dershowitz should be held to a higher standard.

I am not so sure about that. It seems that the point is more that since the NFL has personnel policy X (suspension for certain "alleged" conduct) then that personnel policy X should apply to all "public figures" that are seen (by anyone?) as "role models". Just as the UCMJ applies only to service personnel, the NFL policy applies only to NFL personnel but he refuses to "get" that distinction and sees "unfairness" in treating anyone differently. Equal protection of the law applies only to the law; it is completely acceptable for company X to fire folks for missing a shift and completely acceptable for company Y to not do so. What the NFL chooses to do has no bearing on what any other employer does (or does not) choose to do.

I think the same standard would be to fire Dershowitz not decertify him. Am I mistaken in thinking that none of the recent sports managers or players were barred from their prospective organizations such as the NFL?

You keep saying this, but what NFL players were suspended for mere allegations? Name a few.

It's not Ray Rice, because he wasn't suspended until after his criminal case was settled with charges dropped and acceptance of treatment and parole by Rice. After that decision, he and his wife met with the commissioner, told their story, and he suspended Rice one game - once the tape came out, the suspension grew - but it wasn't still an allegation.

It's not Adrian Peterson, because he wasn't suspended - the league left it up to the Vikings until the court case was concluded. Once Peterson pleaded to the lesser charge, the Vikings and the league suspended him.

So who are all these black NFL players who are wrongly being suspended?

Like - a school teacher being accused of child molestation. I'd be in full support of suspending them from duty as a school teacher because it directly relates to their daily job activities.

So for an NFL player to be suspended the allegations would have to directly relate to their position as a sports figure. [harming another player - juicing - etc]
For a lawyer to be suspended the allegations would have to directly relate to their position as a lawyer. [having a liaison with the judge - etc]
Well you are consistent and if you believe that, I cannot defend against your position.
