Re: Should House Majority Whip Steve Scalise Sept Down?

Apparently he didnt. Or at least no one is sure if he did, even the group.

...
As to the question, do you mean step down from GOP leadership? In that case, maybe, since he is probably hurting them. Step down from his office? No. Thats soley up to the people in his district. Even if Scalise is a full on KKK clan leader, those people are citizens and have a right to representation if they want it.
This whole let's jump on Scalise thing even though it appears he didn't do what we're saying and even though we don't know what he said or who he said it to, is looking more and more like what started the hands up don't shoot thing which became and continues to be a thing even though it was borne of a lie that matters not at all to many.

Was that too wordy to make the point?

So, should he do the right thing and step down?

Choices in the poll are:

Yes
No
I don't Care
Other

Other than for political expediency and to avoid Democrat hypocrisy at every turn, why would his stepping down be "the right thing" to do?

Perhaps those who think Jeremiah Wright is racist are the real racists. Your posting of a stereotypical picture of black man in a bathtub with a bottle of beer is revealing.

Did you call for Robert Byrd to step down?

Re: Should House Majority Whip Steve Scalise Sept Down?

I don't believe Jeremiah Wright is racist.

You just have to love a man who rages about 'white racist DNA', calls white people 'biscuits', and says that blacks raised by white people will 'kill their own kind, defend the enemies of their kind or anyone who is perceived to be the enemy of the milky white way of life.' There's a man who sincerely seeks racial harmony.

Did you call for Robert Byrd to step down?
Nope, I sure didn't. Why would would I, because he was a member of the KKK many years ago? I don't believe very many blacks have called for him to step down.

Then why would you call for Scalise to step down? FYI, Byrd wasn't just a "member" of the KKK, and used the term "n****r" in recent years. You realize he is dead now, right?

Depends how you're asking?

Morally? Absolutely not. He did nothing illegal, he did nothing seemingly inherently unethical, there's no real reason to step down in that fashion.

Politically? Here's where it's questionable. At this point I'd probably say "no", with a caveat that it could potentially be smart to possibly elected a new whip prior to the next election. When this first hit I think the smart political move would've been to essentially come out and defend himself in terms of the more hyperbolic attacks on him, but to suggest that he didn't want to draw attention away from the issues on the verge of a very important time for the Republican Congress and thus he'd step down. Doing it quick and early would make it seem like he/the Republicans are making the choice due to their own reasoning. At this point it'd simply look like they're giving into Democratic demands largely built upon trumpted up claims and a flawed foundational logic regarding "republican" and "racist". In such a case, at this point, stepping down would likely be the wrong political move.

I didn't call for him to step down, my wording ... the right thing... is about the Republican party's embarassment.
Robert Byrd is dead? I needed you to tell me that? :doh

No, well said. And the thing is, he may very well be MORE guilty, not less. We dont know. But based on what we DO know, this is a non story. This thing maybe happened 12 years ago, and hes been elected 6 times since then! Obviously no one cares.

Re: Should House Majority Whip Steve Scalise Sept Down?

I don't think he should step down.

I think he makes a great face for the republican party as the third most powerful man in the GOP.

Well, ya never know. And when you said, " I don't believe very many blacks have called for him to step down", it sure seemed like you were talking present tense. I'm not a freakin' mind reader.

His last know affiliation with the KKK was in 1946 - almost seventy years ago.

Since the late sixties, early seventies, Byrd has renounced his past, said it was the biggest mistake of his life, and asked forgiveness. Over and over.

The NAACP has given him a 100% perfect rating for his voting record, and Byrd also proposed $10 million to fund the Martin Luther King National Memorial in Washington, DC.

Hardly very Klanlike.

A few things about your comment ...
1) the guy in the tub revealed something? Why were you looking?
2) black guys do laugh you know. Sometimes you say strange things, Pete.
3) I don't think the tub guy was holding the beer.
4) and yes, Jeremiah Wright is a racist, to wit ...
"Take that baby, him or her away, from the African mother, away from the African community, away from the African experience ... and put them Africans over at the breasts of Yale, Harvard, University of Chicago ... UCLA or UC-Berkeley, turn them into biscuits. Let them get that alien DNA all up inside their brain and they will turn on their own people in defense of the ones who are keeping their own people under oppression. Sheep dogs."
"There's white racist DNA running through the synapses of his or her brain tissue. They will kill their own kind, defend the enemies of their kind or anyone who is perceived to be the enemy of the milky white way of life."

So? Does a tiger change his stripes? Why did Byrd use the term "n****r" in 2011, and do you think that is perfectly acceptable?

Of course a racist left wing organization is going to endorse a lefty. What's so unusual about that?

Greetings, bubba. :2wave:

That was one of his more polite speeches! I think him saying "God damn America" was one of the most shocking things I had ever heard from a pastor, but to each his own. I remember how he almost upset the Obama bandwagon during the 2008 campaign, and the Obamas quickly left the church after attending for over 20 years. As it turned out, Wright built himself a mansion and retired. All's well that ends well, I guess.

The beer bottle was half empty and he was in the tub with his shorts on, he probably was laughing because he was drunk on his ass.

Like said I don't believe he's a racist, he's sticking up for his race. I have no problem with that, you apparently do.

As we celebrate the foundations of our future, this is not a time to romanticize because we have the first African-descended president in the White House,” Wright said in a fiery sermon that lasted close to an hour. “You see what the tea party is trying to do.”

Speaking at Washington’s Florida Avenue Baptist Church, which marks its 100th anniversary this week, Wright urged parishioners to teach their children true African-American history and not to cede their educations to “our enemies” who teach “his story,” one that “distorts our story, disses our story.”
Children may “only know Oprah and Obama,” he said, so it’s up to elders to teach about Nat Turner, Emmett Till, Rosa Parks, Paul Robeson, Zora Neale Hurston and other black voices.

“We need to tell our children … how we got from a black congressman named Adam Clayton Powell to a black president named Barack Hussein Obama,” he said to applause. “But we also need to tell them how we have black politicians who steal money.

Sooooo, does that mean the KKK aren't racists? After all, they're just sticking up for their race.

There are conservative pastors who are against abortion that have said the same thing.

Let's see 'em.

Re: Should House Majority Whip Steve Scalise Sept Down?

I don't recall who it was and I am not spending my time searching for him.

You said pastors, as in plural. Surely if there are multiple pastors shouting the Lord's name in vain from the pulpit, it shouldn't be too difficult to locate a video or two. Right?

Re: Should House Majority Whip Steve Scalise Sept Down?

I didn't say I respected her opinion on this, I merely posted what what she thought.
Here is the link, BTW.

Fox Host Blasts Scalise: 'The Moral Courage Would Be To Step Down'

What she said repeatedly is that she didn't care if he did anything wrong or not. Rather, he should step down to "send a message." Send a message about what? The GOP doesn't care about truth and dances for race baiters - right or wrong?

What a bunch of BS. No one REALLY gives a damn either way other than the media talking heads trying to make a story.

Stupid politics to step down too. The only REAL news would be if he resigns. Otherwise? No news. What the media did is obliterate his ever being a presidential candidate under the guilt by association concept. Then again, Obama is president so we know that guilt by association doesn't work with voters anyway.

I misspoke, I didn't mean plural. Anyway, I not looking for him right now. Maybe later.
