Have you Read Dreams From My Father By Barack Obama?

Thanks for actually answering my question and staying on topic. I really hate reading mindless off topic political noise on forums. Though, I admit, I thought Obama's book was halfly that myself! But at least you talked about books in your response. Some of these,

Sometimes these forums become no more than a venting mechanism for hate of ___________fill in the blank____ politician. I wonder when they'll simply get bored saying the same old **** day after day....

Don't want to.

Oh, and those who criticise Obama for lying? He's a ****ing politician, what do you expect.

I don't read books written by famous people - because the odds are strong that they didn't actually write it.

I will read reputable biographies though.

Well, given that he wrote this well before he was famous, you might reconsider. There is no question he wrote it. It sold nothing for years, until his DNC speech in 04.

I read it- I met Obama before his run for US Senator and was curious. It was a pretty good book, and fairly revealing of his thinking.

Wow someone who actually read it!!!! YAY!!!! :2wave: May I ask if you voted for him, and if your opinion has changed of him, and/or did the book affect your vote at all?

I have never heard anyone on this forum, other than myself admit to having read Obama's book on his earlier life pre-Presidency.

So have you actually read it cover to cover? Not just what you've heard about it on Fox News blurbs?

EDIT: For some reason this didn't take me to the poll section...

Are any of these books written by politicians actually written by them?

Probably why people get labelled as trolls more often than not. That's a hint they should stop and come up with something original or thought-provoking. Stuff I try to do on this forum everyday. Like this topic. I wasn't aware of anyone who has ever read the book, turns out one guy did!

Even though I consider myself an avid reader I make it a point never to read books written by politicians.

Yes, I read it back before he was President. I enjoyed it. I wish the man who wrote that book was the man we got as President.

Yes, I voted for him- I don't think the book affected my vote- the GOP had such awful candidates it wouldn't have mattered.

But the book was an interesting look into his life, especially his involvement in Chicago communities. It's nice to see a guy who has an Ivy League education devote part of his life to such a difficult and low paying cause for so long. It shows strong character.

Also, the most impressive part about the book was that it was self written after he left law school, way before he attained any prominence anywhere.

Can I ask why you didn't read it?
Little to no interest in reading it to be honest.

I am aware of, and I am not sure if those right wingers have read it or not my guess is that they probably didn't and that I am probably the only registered member of my party that has. So I am just wondering with your political persuasions why you didn't.
No interest in reading it..

Happy New Year! I didn't know I was supposed to write a book review. Did I miss that request? And if I write it, will I get paid for my review?

You'll get paid as much as you do from your other postings.

I was merely pointing out the lack of illumination in your previous post.

Thanks for the input! I feel like I can start 2015 right now. I was not sure what would be the highlight of my year. Now I know. Your commentary on my posts. Woot!

If you're anxious for my book review I'll write it up for you later. You never told me how much my opinion on literature meant to you. Had I known, I would have been obliging you all along.:)

Someone else in this thread said they read it.

yes, next.

He's obviously not interested in people who have just read it, but people who have read it, and think it is the greatest thing since sliced white bread.

I read it and hammered folks with it when it came out, I don't remember if it was here or elsewhere. probably here.

You might want to take a look at my posting history before you go accusing people of things they are not.

You might want to look at your own posting history. You proudly exclaimed "Wow someone who actually read it!!!! YAY!!!!", when someone else had already said they read the book. The trouble was, they said the book sucked. Why didn't you respond to them?

I have neither read it nor really paid any attention to news coverage about it in part or whole.

In fact I did not even recall that it existed until I saw the thread title.

Thinking about it now though, I believe I did hear a couple conservative radio talk show hosts mention it in negative light...I think comparisons to Mein Kampf were made once or twice? As in, it's the same as, or some ****.

I chocked that up to hyperbole, and basically disregarded it.

I read Obama's book. Never said I loved it. I didn't hate it or compare it to the communist manifesto either. I just am aware that the writer's voice can be heard in it. Whether it is Obama's voice, or someone else's that is up to the reader to decide. That particular reader thought it sucked. Who am I to argue? Honestly though, I did not see that post, when I replied to the other one.

Personally I do not care for what Obama did as a child or before he became president. He is not that interesting. He was the best choice at the moment (according to me), not a good choice but still a better one than McCain/Palin combination. Now with someone else than Palin I would have erred on the side of caution and said that from a political view he would have been the safer choice (even though Obama had the emotion angle locked up as being the first African American president).

But as a whole? No, I do not think the man is that much of an inspirational person that I want to read a book by his hand. I would much rather read a good Stephen King book or a Harry Potter book, much better reading I think ;)
