Have you Read Dreams From My Father By Barack Obama?

Personally I do not care for what Obama did as a child or before he became president. He is not that interesting. He was the best choice at the moment (according to me), not a good choice but still a better one than McCain/Palin combination. Now with someone else than Palin I would have erred on the side of caution and said that from a political view he would have been the safer choice (even though Obama had the emotion angle locked up as being the first African American president).

But as a whole? No, I do not think the man is that much of an inspirational person that I want to read a book by his hand. I would much rather read a good Stephen King book or a Harry Potter book, much better reading I think ;)

I don't know the whole "raised by Commies" to become first POTUS who actually hates this country while intending to totally reshape it, is some interesting material. ;)

I just noticed something kinda screwy...if we're talking "have you read", "read" is pronounced one way...but if we're talking "did you read", it's pronounced another way.

Same spelling though...

I read Obama's book. Never said I loved it. I didn't hate it or compare it to the communist manifesto either. I just am aware that the writer's voice can be heard in it. Whether it is Obama's voice, or someone else's that is up to the reader to decide. That particular reader thought it sucked. Who am I to argue? Honestly though, I did not see that post, when I replied to the other one.

Okay, I take you at your word. :) Sorry for giving you a hard time.

I noticed that as I typed the question. Good catch!

I dont understand how anyone could think the book was ghostwritten. Who would ghostwrite a book for an unknown? And why? And who would pay both of them for it when they could just pay the ghostwriter?

I'm sure he had help from many people and that is included in his acknowledgements. It could have even been inspired by Ayers. I'm still not entirely sure why and how he wrote the book in the first place. Most books would have that in there somewhere, his didn't and that was strange to me.

I also found that odd but didn't remember it until you mentioned it. I also find the timing of his book curious. In 1995 he was a nobody. Who was he writing it for exactly?

Aah there it is, the regular Obama hatred by people who still can not believe that their candidates were defeated by a "socialist" (which of course Obama is not) country hater (which is also just an accusation built on hatred of Obama to begin with).

No. No need to. I already know he was a Communist and a violent alcoholic and that Obama is very leftist.

And we already knew that you have no idea what any of those words actually mean.

Everything I said is true whether you like it or not.

-Obama's father was a known alcoholic

-Obama's father was a self avowed Communist

-Obama is on the left of the political spectrum

I believe he said he wrote it in one straight shot coming out of law school. If I recall, he did explain why he wrote it. I'm sure he was hoping to make some money off of it to help pay off his school loans.

He wrote the book for a general audience- it's clear he's a good writer, and his story is fairly interesting given his background and where he ended up at the time. The community organizing challenges in it were really interesting to me, being from Chicago.

It didn't go anywhere, of course, until he attained national prominence. But it could have...many books like it do every year. I recall hearing him interviewed on it on local radio show.

I don't believe he would have known Ayres at the time he did the book.

Whatever you want to call him. Facts are facts.

Obama

I call him what I know him to be, and what his policies have proven him to be and that is not a socialist or a country hater.
