This post is one giant ramble and the first sentence is an assumption that you can't make.

He can make all the assumptions he wants. And much of the generalizing is true. Liberals waste a lot of money trying to solve problems, but they never solve them. Take poverty, the biggest one. The liberal approach of giving away other people's money to other people hasn't reduced poverty an single iota. And that's only one liberal effort, though the biggest one. But it makes you feel good that you tried to do something. Nice, you can check off that box. BFD as far as actually accomplishing the goal. I know a lot of govt employees are doing well executing those programs.

No, he can't. His first assumption is that I have nothing of value. Which is funny because I have a full-time job, a house, a family, a car, a kid, a bank account, and a financial portfolio. But sure, whatever, who gives a **** if his assumptions make sense, right? He has a right to just make stupid **** up about people and support his fallacious arguments with those ridiculous assumptions.

As far as your argument... sure, maybe you're right that liberals haven't been able to "solve" some major issues. I'm just glad they try.

You what I've always wondered? Why wouldn't the big government types be the first to kill off lousy programs, because if they really believe big govt can work you'd think they'd be real choosy about the programs they fund so as to give big govt the best image possible. But no, they support any and all govt programs no matter stupid, inane, and preposterous they are, and no matter how bad they fail they keep them going.

You but so many have so little, you can afford more, right?

Your genius plan is to misrepresent my own view against me and hopefully I won't notice? Then I'll say, "OMG, AmericanSpartan, you're so ****ing right!! All of this time I just wanted others to pay and for me to pay nothing! How selfish!"

No, I am for a simple and progressive tax system that stays on the positive side of the Laffer Curve. That's it.

Don't feel bad. He told me I was not a liberal. I am still laughing about it.

By your answers you are not, that is not my fault I do not decide what you believe or what liberals support.

So you think someone who supports a large central government and a strong social safety net is not a liberal?

2 things

1.) what is YOUR definition of liberal because I certainly dont know what one is and what the definition is. Ask 10 people here and they will give you different answers ive been called righty, lefty, liberal and con depending on the issue

2.) in most cases besides the few extremist i dont know what people are nor do i really care

By definition that is the current definition of a welfare staist with most liberals support...

It's probably better to ask how many liberals I know, who don't realize they are liberals, and how many people I know, who think they're liberals, but really aren't. ;)

Yeah - liberals are less likely to be ideologically self-aware.

Personally, I have no idea. It's not something I generally interrogate friends, family, or acquaintances about :)

The poverty statistics are misleading because they don't measure quality of life. There's plenty of room for improvement, but even the poorest people in the USA can access a place to live, adequate food, medical care, and an education. (I acknowledge that the mentally ill and addicted homeless are not served well) That was not the case a hundred years ago. Many poor people manage to get a good education and rise above poverty. It is also not the case in many other nations in the world. Compare the USA to India where disabled, malnourished children and adults have to beg on the streets.

Nope, you are once again showing that you do not understand what being a liberal is.

This was my thought. It is not like I go up to people I meet and ask "are you a liberal or conservative? Conservative...well, you are a mouth breathing moron...". I find that some liberals I know are so are great people, some are pure trash, and that some conservatives I know are great people, and some absolute trash. I am much more worried about just about everything except politics when it comes to my circle of friends and family.

Though I do have a lot of fun talking politics with my brother in law. We will start up shouting at each other, then find common ground and start agreeing on what should be done.

Most real liberals want massive cuts to weapons development programs, the military, and intelligence operations and to end the USA's role as World Police and instead focus on securing the nation only. The USA has hundreds of military bases all over the world that could be closed. We also want an end to government subsidies to big business, especially those businesses that create problems and contribute little to the public interest. (ie. bank bailouts, subsidies for big agriculture, petroleum subsidies etc.)

:) I enjoy having family members (my dad, for example) with whom I can debate politics. Though we don't do the shouting - my invective mostly comes out here.

We've spent $trillions since the 60's and have little to show for it, and no one ever wants to try anything else. Anyone that even suggests something different is labeled a hater. That's all I have to say about that.

The above is so general as to be completely meaningless. All government activity involves "giving away other people's money to other people."

And BTW, solving problems isn't an either/or deal. Lots of solutions make things less worse, but are still much better than nothing.
