Fox News Host: Stephen Colbert Owes His Success To Us

One of the hosts of the Fox News show "The Five" said on Friday night that comedian Stephen Colbert owes his success to conservative news network.

The other four co-hosts of the Fox News show heaped a surprising amount of praise on Colbert after the comedian bid adieu to his acclaimed Comedy Central show "The Colbert Report" on Thursday night with a star-packed musical spectacle.

But as the website Mediaite pointed out, co-host Greg Gutfeld used the moment to take a sly shot at Colbert, whose fake conservative newsman persona has been modeled after some of the overstuffed personalities at Fox.

"He should write an eight-figure check to Fox News," Gutfeld said, "because all of our gaffes made that man’s career."

Colbert is planning to ditch his conservative shtick when he takes over as host of "The Late Show" on CBS next year.

Colbert is a comedic genius, and although Fox is a great target to spoof, he is ultimately responsible for his own success. The world is funny, and a comedian's job is to poke fun at the world. Colbert does it well.

Really, though, how can any political satirist pass up the goldmine that is Fox News?

Gutfeld and I think a lot a like so I agree with him again here. If he didn't have the Conservative Satire I do wonder how successful he could be. The perfect example of this is William Shatner who is seemingly just now beginning to understand where the root of his success has come from. I have heard for years from other cast members on Star Trek that Shatner was the least trekkie. Shatner like Colbert could not do anything else without the success of ST and the connections it has made him. People love him for one thing. It's sad because both guys are really talented. I don't think they'll be remembered for anything else.

Stephen Colbert owes his success to his comedy talent and the world's recognition of that talent.

Fox news is just a handy target.

If it wouldn't have been Fox it would have been something else.

Yes, comedians are not funny without source material. Conservatives are great source material. Next question.

I liked your comment, but that doesn't mean that I totally agree with it.

I'm sure that Colbert will have a lot of success doing a lot of different things in the future.

    He's a very talented guy.

We will see, I actually hope that his counterpart Jon Stewart stays more behind the camera. His new movie Rosewater looks pretty good. However, Colbert does better Satire and whenever I see him trying to come across as serious, it always turns out to be another satire bit. Like his ill-fated kind-of run for office in South Carolina.

Though, I don't care much for either of them.

But you do manage (In a fine demonstration of your moderate-ness.) to put that aside and enjoy their comedy.

Funny is funny, with or without politics.

Yeah, I understand that they are successful regardless of my opinion on them.
