Yes and no. It's kind of the point though, that Fox host probably shouldn't take it as something to brag about.

Fox is just the biggest fish in the right wing media sea, not the only one. That's what it's about, conservative news media. It comes down to the talent of Colbert and his writers, they're the real magic.

Gonna miss the Colbert Report, fantastic series. Looking forward to what comes next.

I vote no. He owes his success to the general idiocy of the american people that gave RISE to fox news. As long as that idiocy is present, there will ALWAYS be a fox new, or it's equivalent, as well as it's counterpart for liberals.

Yep. I just hope that once he drops his character, he doesn't fade into mediocraty.

Re: Does Stephen Colbert owe his success to Fox News?

Obviously he does. Colbert's Report was practically a satirical look at Bill O Reilly. The quality and tone of his show would not have resonated without modeling it after such pre-existing material. Every mannerism, the style of speaking... Heck, even the walk toward the episode's guest interview is created to parody the well-established ego of O' Reilly (if not some of the slightly lesser known personalities like Hannity). Of course we're supposed to understand that Hannity or O' Reilly would try to steal the thunder from anyone else and that they have a giant portrait of themselves in their home. It's an exaggeration of their personalities, to be sure, but it hits home enough that the viewer understands that he's working with that nugget of truth.

What continues to confound me, however, is how anyone at Fox News can say with a measure of pride that a satire was created due to their daily commentary. That's not something to be proud of, unless you continue to not "get it."

Colbert and his writing team are very talented, but liberals shouldn't be afraid of crediting his show's success to the excesses of their least favorite news station. If anything, liberals should be saying, "damn right he owed his success to that network. It's often terrible and he did his part in showing why many of its personalities are worthy of parody."

Fox News Host: Stephen Colbert Owes His Success To Us

One of the hosts of the Fox News show "The Five" said on Friday night that comedian Stephen Colbert owes his success to conservative news network.

The other four co-hosts of the Fox News show heaped a surprising amount of praise on Colbert after the comedian bid adieu to his acclaimed Comedy Central show "The Colbert Report" on Thursday night with a star-packed musical spectacle.

But as the website Mediaite pointed out, co-host Greg Gutfeld used the moment to take a sly shot at Colbert, whose fake conservative newsman persona has been modeled after some of the overstuffed personalities at Fox.

"He should write an eight-figure check to Fox News," Gutfeld said, "because all of our gaffes made that manís career."

Colbert is planning to ditch his conservative shtick when he takes over as host of "The Late Show" on CBS next year.

Watch video of Gutfeld's remarks over at Mediaite.
Foxnews is giving themselves too great an honor. Colbert did loads of things (the majority to be honest) about a lot of things that had absolutely nothing to do with Foxnews. And being so ridiculous that you become the joke on comical news shows does not make them someone to whom Colbert owes his success.

This is like the joke that writes itself. Stephen Colbert owes his extremely successful 10 year career to FOX's stupidity, and they admit it.

I believe that they did a lot more than admit it-they actually bragged about it.

I'm not sure exactly what that tells us about them.

    I agree!!!!!

Faux Noise is once again wallowing in it's delusional self importance...

How vapid is the Faux team to take the constant reminder of how ignorant their comments are and put them center stage??? Pay us for being this stupid????

I have watched more than a few episodes of the 'Report' and I can assure the 'moderate' CONs here Faux noise was but a minor part of the the rich material source that is CONdom. Colbert went to the horse's mouth fart more often- CON politicians who's posturing was far superior material to the drool fest that is Faux Noise...

Satire and holding a character isn't easy, I believe Mr. Cobert will continue to delight and amaze us all.

If the 'moderate' CONs watched the interviews Stephen did with guests you will see a quick wit mind sharp as a razor wit.

The 'ill-fated' political run was BRILLIANT! With partner in crime Stewart, he exposed the farce of super pacs as an amazing cash cow for the pigs at the taxpayer trough.

Stephen will do well, what ever he decides to do....

Re: Does Stephen Colbert owe his success to Fox News?

As others have said he owes his success to his talent. If there was no Fox news he would parody something else.
