Merry Christmas everybody!
Well, I'm not too sure Saturnalias has that big of a resurgence yet and Hanukkah doesn't usually have a fixed date -- perhaps it is a stubborn insistence on correctness rather than political correctness that makes some people go goo goo ga ga?
Christmas always was about giving and receiving presents. Christians tried to change it into being about Jesus, but no one really bought it, not even Christians.
Why would anyone be offended either way?
Lets see here. In the beginning of the clip Stein says, "My wife and I celebrate Christmas, big-time. I am sure we have more decorations than anyone within miles of here has.". But then he goes on to rail against commercialism... Hmmmmmmm... He admits he just bought a **** ton of Christmas lights and decorations and proudly showed them off in the video, but then goes on to rail against the "commercialism" of the Christmas season.... Can you say hypocrite..??
From my experience the ones who celebrate the REAL meaning of Christmas are not the ones going into debt for Christmas gifts. It seems to be more of the secular folks who focus on the big ticket gifts and trying to out spend the other person. But as far as giving some one a gift? I see nothing wrong with it. And the more america becomes secular the more materialistic it becomes.
Seems like theres much more to Christmas than that.
Red can do whatever he so chooses, but what's the point? I guess I could fast during Ramadan but why would I? Am not Muslim so what purpose would it serve me? Essential when you remove Christ from his own birthday celebration you having nothing left but to spend money on trinkets and out of control materialism.... Merry Christmas
No, actually it's about the birth of Jesus Christ. You should look it up, really cool story. Even if you don't believe.
There was a time when it was about this. In modern America that has taken a back seat to trampling other humans for 60 bucks off a LED TV.
Congratulations on your appointment as spokesman for the entire nation. Your parents must be very proud.
Maybe past commercialism. Most of our stuff is old. We usually add/replace a decoration or two each year as they go bad.
You sure? There's not many atheists out there and tons of crowds for Black Friday and other events. You want to stick with your story that they're all secularists?
Oh there are many who say they are "christian" yet they never attend church or show any form of worship. Secular doesn't necessarily mean atheist but non religious.
Christmas is the constant target of political correctness in the USA as well as a major driver of the economy, but its also more than that for the majority of Americans, do you agree with Ben Steins perspective?
So what? We don't know what day Jesus was born, they didn't keep very good records of which working stiff was born on which stable on which day back then. So someone chose a day that they already celebrated and for lack of a better idea, decided to celebrate it then. I don't get what the big deal is.
The only reason they did it was to make it easier to appeal to Roman pagans of the day. The Catholic Church was very good at simply incorporating the rituals and celebrations of other religions into their own so they would have a better chance of converting them.
Nowhere-you just said you celebrate Christmas like activities on Christmas.
Because it's horrible if society redefines marriage but totally cool for christians to redefine what christianity is
He's about as full of **** as the majority of americans.
Maybe more
Probably more
I find it more revealing that some wish to decry people who buy Christmas lights and decorations.
