I say yes companies should have to pay employees for these security screenings. This is part of their job and valuable time is being taken away for these screenings.
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"

This is normally done on company time, and anything done on company time you should be paid for it...

But it is still up to the employer to offer that compensation for that time.

Just as it's up to the employee whether they want to continue working for that employer. I've worked late and on weekends without pay.

I think that it is generally better for the person that wants something to pay for it him-/herself. In this case I would not accept a security check presented by the employee and would want my own choice of company do the search. Of course, that will be reflected in the level of pay.

As for time spent on the check I think I would handle it the same way.

im some where in the middle, i would say it should be based on times and requirements.

if employees are REQUIRED to go through the screenings before and after work and those screenings take in access of 30 mins total IMO that matters. If not i wouldnt care but again this is just my personal view.

.... In terms of worker's rights, this is probably the stupidest thing workers can complain about.

That is because you are being paid a salary. Therefore, you would get paid for the time during screenings. The hourly employees would have to clock out and back in later.

The money will come out of the salary one way or another. So, doesn't matter.

If it's required then it's part of the job. They should be paid for their job.
If you claim sexual harassment to be wrong, yet you defend anyone on your side for any reason,
then you are a hypocrite and everything you say on the matter is just babble.
