Who Do You Think Was the Best VP Ever?

In your opinion who do you think was the greatest VP of all time?

I guess I never really understood the parameters of the poll. Is it about how well they did as VP or their body of work?

I would think as VP and VP only. So maybe I need to rethink TR also. It was a Assistant Secretary of the Navy he accomplished most of his great things, not as VP. TR wasn't VP long enough to leave a legacy there.

My vote is for George H.W. Bush. Yes, yes, I know he likely knew about Iran-ContraGate, because Reagan was by that time significantly diminished with Alzheimer's. Behind the scenes, Bush took up the slack, allowing Americans to maintain confidence in their government even though the president was failing rapidly. Bush was also a damned good president in his own right; if only he could take back the words "No new taxes" and swallow them whole, he would have been elected to a second term and the country would now be saying, "The Clintons? Who are they??"

Disclaimer: None of the above is a slam against Reagan, whom I voted for, or either Clinton, both of whom I eventually voted for after Bush Sr. lost reelection.
