A study from the British Medical Journey suggests this. Especially when it comes to stupid actions perpetrated by one gender over the other, ending in death.

After studying the "winners" and nominees of the Darwin Awards, an award given out to people who died spectacular but also stupid deaths. Of the 318 nominees and winners of stupid fatal acts, 282 were perpetrated by men and 36 by women.

One of the dumbest is most certainly a terrorist who sent a letterbomb but forgot to put enough stamps on the parcel to get it delivered. Instead it was returned to him due to insufficient stamps on the parcel. The idiotic letterbomb sender forgot he had sent this bomb through the mail and when he got a package he opened his own bomb and blew himself to kingdom come.

So that would prove that men really do often miss the intelligence to see the error of their ways.

Like these people "playing" with fire

Loads of videos there, almost all of them (except one) were done by (often young) stupid males.

Or this "brilliant" man who tries to do a bit of manscaping himself

be careful with underage viewers, graphic images with a possible bit of man parts in the mix

In short, men just think differently than woman. Hormones, group theory, and so on. All of that play into how men and women think to a primal level. Men (myself included) think it would be a good idea to ride on top of a car because it would look cool. And there have been women who have done plenty of dumb, irrational things for their own reasons.

Even shorter, human beings are stupid.

This thread is a joke and the OP is a joke for making it.

Men predominantly do things that aren't safe or certain and such, that's true, but safety isn't what defines stupidity. Yes, doing things like those above is a sign of stupidity but still, that comes down to the individual, not the gender.
In other words, if doing the risky thing works, than that's amazing, if it backfires, then it's stupid. That's why the majority of people who end up on those videos and some in the morgue are men and also why the majority of inventors and discoverers are also men.
Smart men do the invention and discovery stuff, dumb men do the things seen in the above video. Each with his own mental capabilities.

Eh. Could be, but I usually chalk it up as this instead -- "Courage is endurance for one moment more." Unless the guy is literally mentally handicapped, he knows damn well that if what he's tryin' to do goes south that there are serious consequences waiting for him at the finish line of failure. But, then there is always the dude who is blinded by his own self-inflated ego and his arrogance gets his ass handed to him on a humble platter with extra irony on the top.

But the stupid things women do, are of a kind that does not have the risk of almost killing yourself in the process.

That is why the questions is not "Men are more stupid then women!" but the question is "are men more stupid than women when it comes to their own safety?".

And objective facts from the journal have found that a lot more men die in stupid stunts than women do. Maybe it is stupidity that makes men more likely to die doing a stupid stunt or maybe it is something different.

Stupidity over ones safety is totally separate from the intelligence issue. A man/woman can be quite intelligent and still totally stupid when it comes to their own safety in stupid stunts.

Give it time, eventually women will be just as prone to taking video of their entry into consideration for the Darwin Awards as men do now.

No, there is noting special about men taking stupid risks with their lives all for a few laughs in a disproportionate way to women today. The further we go socially the more we see women in positions they have not been in before, what you cannot do is take today's social standards and go backwards to make a generalization on who is and is not more likely to harm themselves in a YouTube video. I'd offer a guess that in another 50 years there will be just as many women as men offered up each year for reward on removing themselves from the gene pool in spectacular manner. If for no other reason than there should be no real limitations on one's sex being a reason to act with a lesser degree of self preservation.

I agree the percentage of women will go up and up, but I think there will still be a clear difference between the percentage of men doing dumb risky stuff and women doing dumb risky stuff. Because men will always want to prove their "manliness" to each other and women they want to impress and often this is done by risky and stupid stuff. But that is just my opinion, maybe men will prove me wrong and learn to be more safe.

As far as doing stupid dangerous things, I don't believe its even close. In my experiences men tend to do many more dangerous things than the ladies. I am not convinced it is to prove anything or show off as much as it is an adrenaline rush. Not saying ladies are not participating in thrill seeking because I have seen that too. But for the most part it's the guys throwing caution to the wind with the ladies standing back commenting on how stupid we all are!

Which man and which woman are we comparing?

But the stupid things women do, are of a kind that does not have the risk of almost killing yourself in the process.

That's probably the testosterone factor at play. Testosterone tend to make one more aggressive physically, and daring is just an extension of that trait. I am more likely to overthink and drive myself crazy, than to physically act, and put my life at risk. It's just a difference in tendencies, and it seems that women tend toward a more introspective impulse, and men toward action.

The primary factor is that huge numbers of men are desperately insecure and will do anything to avoid being seen as "weak". They literally are more afraid of being called a pansy than they are of serious injury or death. Society pushes the message that the only way a man can find love, respect, money or anything else is being a "tough guy". Most guys honestly believe is that aren't "hard" enough, they never be happy or successful no matter what.

The majority of American men would rather get punched in the face and receive a black eye than walk down the street in a tube top. The suffering and potential injury is not nearly as important as the humiliation they'd feel at being seen as effeminate. The worst is that the fear is so strong that it literally can overcome the rational mind. I know in my brain that gender specific clothing is utterly arbitrary cultural bull****, that most men throughout history wore skirts and that its absurd to worked up over a piece of cloth wrapped around your waist. Despite all that, I'd literally have a measurable fear-based adrenal response if I had to cross-dress in public.

A greater willingness to risk bodily harm is not (necessarily) stupidity.

You're mistakenly equating "stupidity" with "willingness to take on risk". They are not equivalent. It is true that someone may engage in risky behavior because he/she is stupid. But it is not necessarily so.

You even have to ask?

Yes. Men are, by and large, risk-takers by nature. Women generally tend to be a bit more cautious.

Why?

Because, quite frankly, we sort of have to be if we want to get anywhere in life. Evolutionarily speaking, this has pretty much always been the case.

"Bravery" and "stupidity" are two sides of the same coin, after all. The man foolish enough to stand down a charging bull might very well be squashed like a bug, or he might kill the beast and reap the rewards (sexual, material, and otherwise) that entails.

The problem today is that we simply happen to live in a far more "civilized" world than ever existed before. For that reason, a lot of the instincts responsible for this kind of behavior have been left directionless, and therefore often wind up being tragically misapplied.

I said, more stupid (aka more irresponsible, aka more reckless with no regard for their own safety or the safety of others) when compared to women.

And of course it does not go for all men or women, but as a rule of thumb, men have been known to be more reckless. The study of the nominees for the Darwin Awards clearly show that a lot more men die doing stupid stunts killing them than women do stupid stunts killing them.

I also have not seen a woman who have set their pubic hairs on fire ;)

No PK..we tend not to do that..what was more disturbing was the other men laughing..whilst one of them was obviously acquiring 3rd degree burns..

And we tend not to light our farts either!!

But you do fart. Hmmmm. My ex-wife has explained to me several times that women absolutely don't fart. What we hear is simply a tear in the fabric of the universe. I've also discovered that yes, men are absolutely dumber than women and willing to do stupid stuff just to prove it. You should thank us.

Well..thanks..(I think!)..

I sometimes cringe at silverback males though..

And actually I don't fart..I'm English..

My grandparents were English - both sides of the family. As nearly a wet back, I've assumed American ways. Gassy beer is part of the culture, and we know where that leads.

Really...where did they originate from?

Yeah, that is what is bizarre too, men who could be seriously hurt and other men laughing their heads off (doubling over with laughing fits).

Schadenfreude..

Yes, it is one of the characteristics the human kind seems to have since centuries (and maybe even ever since we started walking upright and the first one tripped and banged his/her head).
