Bush knew about CIA torture, says Cheney

    "
President George W Bush was fully aware and an "integral part" of the CIA's torture of terror suspects, his vice-president Dick Cheney said Wednesday. The long-awaited US Senate report released Tuesday on the program of harsh treatment and torture of detainees said Bush only learned details of it in 2006, four years after it started in the wake of the 9/11 attacks on New York and Washington.
Detainees were beaten, waterboarded -- some of them dozens of times -- and humiliated through the painful use of medically unnecessary "rectal feeding" and "rectal rehydration", the report said.
Speaking to Fox News, Cheney denied Bush was kept out of the loop. He said the then-president "was in fact an integral part of the program and he had to approve it."

"According to the 500-page declassified summary of the Senate Intelligence Committee's findings, the first CIA briefing with Bush on the interrogation techniques was on April 8, 2006."

That means according to the Senate's findings, Bush didn't know, but Cheney says Bush did know.
    How's that work for you?
Does it sound like he pulled the rug out from under Bush?

I seem to recall that anyone paying attention at that time and the entire Congress knew what was happening; I don't know how anyone could have missed the public discussion that caused some policies to be ended.

In what respect? What was permitted was not torture as far as I could tell. There seem to have been a number of over steps, maybe a muchmuchlarger number that we thought. But do you really think that Bush knew about those? It is possible and we will have to find out. But i still doubt it.

In the respect that the Senate Report said Bush didn't know details until 2006 and Cheney stated outright and publicly the Bush was fully informed from the beginning. Now, in Court Bush couldn't say "I didn't know about nada until 2006."

I am sure he knew of the techniques that were being used. As for the oversteps? Those he may not have known about.

It seems rather improbable, that the people all knew what was happening. Sure they knew the permitted stuff was going on. But nobody probably could believe the CIA was acting so stupidly.

Maybe, I dunno' ... my general attitude is that this is all finger pointing at the past in an effort to politically maneuver for the next election and only truly serves the politicians who like to keep the electorate distracted from today's problems and present misdeeds. I have few patience for it ... no matter the origin.

    Great day to ya' j
