Did Cheney Throw Bush Under The Bus?

Bush knew about CIA torture, says Cheney

Bush knew about CIA torture, says Cheney

"
President George W Bush was fully aware and an "integral part" of the CIA's torture of terror suspects, his vice-president Dick Cheney said Wednesday. The long-awaited US Senate report released Tuesday on the program of harsh treatment and torture of detainees said Bush only learned details of it in 2006, four years after it started in the wake of the 9/11 attacks on New York and Washington.
Detainees were beaten, waterboarded -- some of them dozens of times -- and humiliated through the painful use of medically unnecessary "rectal feeding" and "rectal rehydration", the report said.
Speaking to Fox News, Cheney denied Bush was kept out of the loop. He said the then-president "was in fact an integral part of the program and he had to approve it."

"According to the 500-page declassified summary of the Senate Intelligence Committee's findings, the first CIA briefing with Bush on the interrogation techniques was on April 8, 2006."

That means according to the Senate's findings, Bush didn't know, but Cheney says Bush did know.
How's that work for you?
Does it sound like he pulled the rug out from under Bush?

I seem to recall that anyone paying attention at that time and the entire Congress knew what was happening; I don't know how anyone could have missed the public discussion that caused some policies to be ended.

There is no way Bush didn't know what was going on.

In what respect? What was permitted was not torture as far as I could tell. There seem to have been a number of over steps, maybe a muchmuchlarger number that we thought. But do you really think that Bush knew about those? It is possible and we will have to find out. But i still doubt it.

In the respect that the Senate Report said Bush didn't know details until 2006 and Cheney stated outright and publicly the Bush was fully informed from the beginning. Now, in Court Bush couldn't say "I didn't know about nada until 2006."

It seems rather improbable, that the people all knew what was happening. Sure they knew the permitted stuff was going on. But nobody probably could believe the CIA was acting so stupidly.

Maybe, I dunno' ... my general attitude is that this is all finger pointing at the past in an effort to politically maneuver for the next election and only truly serves the politicians who like to keep the electorate distracted from today's problems and present misdeeds. I have few patience for it ... no matter the origin.

Great day to ya' j

It is certainly finger pointing at a high level. But that won't save us from forcing the point. It looks as if public employees broke the law and lied about it to the citizenry. That cannot be allowed to pass.

Maybe.
But since it's Cheney saying this, my immediate response is, it's a lie.

That's a very incisive remark for a feckless bon vivant. I see it this way. Yesterday, Bush was out of the prosecution loop because he didn't know anything until 2006. That made Cheney the top dog in prosecutions. He'd be the head honcho for blame. Today, we find Bush actually knew everything from the beginning. Ergo, now instead of Cheney being prosecuted for the torture program as the top man in charge, the prosecution bypasses Cheney and goes after the Head Honcho (the decider) in charge. That's what I mean by throwing Bush under the bus so Cheney can save his own ass, eh? Perhaps we'll see a lot more of this. Rice, Rummy, Gonzales, Yo, and others might be thinking similar thoughts, don't ya' know?

Then again....we are talking about GWB....

Saying Bush didn't know about this is like saying Obama didn't know the IRS or NSA scandals or that Cristie didn't know about the bridge scandal.

Lol, no. It was in defense of Bush and the notion that he didn't "trust himself" not to know the details as was alleged in the report. Also "LOL" at the OP's notion that President Bush would somehow 'face trial'.

Golly....thanks..... I think. I shall immediately change my title to reflect your compliment.

I see it the same way.

I'm doubtful that anyone is gonna be prosecuted for any of this crap.
And if anyone was to be prosecuted and Cheney wasn't, I'd be really disappointed.

Sorry about the delayed response, I was out buying truffles and brandy snifters.

No, the author of that article did in the way he selectively quotes cheney. I dont think that bush has ever denied his knowledge of the eit's. Nor has cheney
