Car vs Protesters - Who was right?

Should the driver be charged?

Many did run out in front of it and there's no evidence anyone did anything to stop the car. FYI braking the windshield doesn't stop the car.

The mob cared so little for the girl about to be ran over that not one person performed any action to actually halt the vehicle.

That might be true. I am not and have never defended that actions of the mob, I just am not going to excuse the actions of the driver.

I don't excuse either. Never have. A lot of people think that speaking against the driver is to defend the mob, or speaking against the mob is to defend the driver. They're both wrong and both need to have charges filed.

Now we are on the same page. I have several friends mad at me because I wont compare the riots in Ferguson with the Stonewall riots of NY and try to tell me I am a hypocrit because I speak out against the Ferguson rioters while, at the same time, I am an out transgender advocate. Very little between the two are comparable.

I'm pretty sure that you're not allowed to run someone over if you're in a bad mental state either.

Pearls of wisdom aside, and discounting the obvious difference between fast moving traffic and stopped vehicles....: Here's all you need to know.
1). The driver approached the protesters, not the other way around. There was a clear path for the driver to back up and leave.
2). The protesters did not appear to make any attempt to enter the vehicle.

Hitting someone intentionally with a car is using deadly force. The only way that it is justified is if your life is being threatened and it's your only option. Obviously the driver could have just backed up and avoided the situation altogether. Also, it would be extremely difficult to argue that a reasonable person would think the driver was in lethal danger. Ergo guilty.

I don't care who was in the car, and who was outside. I don't care what the protest was about. That driver should be charged with assault with a deadly weapon. Arguing otherwise is kind of nonsensical.

Any good lawyer could use any number of denfenses to get this person off. Facing an mob angry enough to block traffic will easily evoke a primal "fight or flight" response.

Anyway, unless faced with a very hostile DA, or she ends up with too many Michael Brown huggers on the jury---she'll get off.

FYI, not one person on this board who leans conservative has voted that the driver should be charged.

I didn't bother voting as the choices don't cover what I would want...

The more I think about it, the more I think that I shouldnt have voted. I didnt notice till later that the poll didnt match the title and that alters how I would debate this point. Up until this point, I have just been debating the poll and not the title.

Interesting how history tends to repeat itself, isn't it? Three years ago we were arguing virtually the exact same things as we are now.

Good lord, of course he should be "Charged." No sane and honest person would disagree with that. Now what exactly is he ALL guilty of, not sure thats why the trial and additional evidence will determine. And my right leaning has no impact on this.

If you really were right leaning you wouldn't actually have to constantly keep saying it. I also must disagree with your assertion that having a different view than you makes someone not sane or makes them dishonest.

Cars should never drive into people.
Why is this a question.

I mean, technically, I suppose it would make sense to drive into someone if they were trying to kill you with a firearm or something.

But a crowd of people protesting?

It doesn't take firearms for a crowd surrounding your car to be threatening. To be clear, I'm referring to the incident this thread is about, not the most recent one.

Hahah your opinion means little to nothing, I said it because the OP focuses on it. Also at no time did I say having a different view than mine makes a person not sane or dishonest. You realize many people don't by the victimhood, excessive whining, hypocrisy and intellectual dishonesty in your posts right. Just another example of you being wrong. :)

Threatening is one thing.

Actually a threat you need to respond to is another. I don't recall the details of the incident this thread is about.

Thread's not about me. It's not even about what you think it is.

Thank you for giving us a prime example of the hypocritical whining and victimhood I was talking about for all to see. Wow that couldn't have went more perfect, thanks kid!!!

You think that this went well for you?

The poll is directly intended for partisan people. Though most people who say they aren't partisan are kidding themselves.

I lean conservative in some things, and liberal in others. Strangely enough, I see this as a law and order issue - which is both (depending on the target). I see this as a hate crime - which is both (depending on the target). There are true independents out there - conservative and liberal are not the only options, not everyone has such clear politics across the board.

Can you post the results for those of us who are not voting?

Do you not have the button that says "view poll results" right under the poll?

Sorry - with the stupidity and all :doh

Eh, I've been here a long time and have a lot of posts and I still learn new things about this forum.
