If they didn't have a permit, then they weren't protesting.

Think about that for a second: you see a car you think is trying to run people over, and you're reaction is to run out in front of it....

    It was a joke.

Look, in the end, as sad as it is to say, we clearly agree more on this case than we disagree.

If you want to block traffic, yes, you need a permit: https://www.aclu.org/free-speech/kno...s-and-protests

Do I need a permit before I engage in free speech activity?

Not usually. However, certain types of events require permits. For example:
    • A march or parade that does not stay on the sidewalk, and other events that require blocking traffic or street closure;
    • A large rally requiring the use of sound amplifying devices; or
    • A rally at certain designated parks or plazas.

    .....

If organizers have not obtained a permit, where can a march take place?

If marchers stay on the sidewalks and obey traffic and pedestrian signals, their activity is constitutionally protected even without a permit. Marchers may be required to allow enough space on the sidewalk for normal pedestrian traffic and may not maliciously obstruct or detain passers-by.
You need a permit so police know when and where to redirect traffic so some moron doesn't try to drive through the crowed and nearly run people over.

No permit means it wasn't a protest, it was a hazard.

The protesters were ***holes blocking the streets.

If their cause was so righteous and just (which it is not) they they should not have been blocking the road.

Did the protesters get a permit from the city before they did this?

What does that have to do with anything? You can't drive through a crowd of people for no reason - permit or no permit.

The crowd was there to disrupt the peace. They were aggressive and hostile. Their intent was to incite violence from the drivers they blocked. And it worked.

If you, or other pro-thug activists want to make a more useful statement to defend cop-killers like Michael Brown, there are better ways:

You have some sort of evidence that this particular crowd that was run over was being hostile? I was not aware of that. (FYI - the video shows a wide open lane that drivers were easily navigating through).

I guess im ignorant to what really happened...I would never drive thru a group of people in the street.. I would go around if I could.. now if I got stuck there some kind of way I would proceed at 1 mile an hour and blow my horn asking can I please get through.. if someone starts beating on my car or I think my live may be in danger... someone might get ran over.....
