A common political theory is that the older voters get, the more conservative they become. Let's put this theory to the test here at DP.

Not really no. I was far more conservative two decades ago than I am now, politically at least.

With age I'd say I've become less inclined to stick my nose into other's business, and less inclined to support extremism of any stripe direction color or shape.

I think I have gotten more liberal

Pretty much this. Live and let live is my motto.

I became more conservative from around age 18 to 50, then started becoming libertarian socially (with the exception of the death penalty, which I still support), but stayed conservative fiscally.

NO.

I respect the best of our governmental and other institutions more than ever and want to keep what is good about our society, so the small amount of interest I ever had in revolutionary or anarchist thinking is gone. Revolution correctly and literally means going in circles.

But the more I read and learn, the more I see the (usually intentional) flaws in our system and how many ignorant, selfish and bigoted people there are and how easilly the plutocrats con and manipulate them. That makes me want change and reform more than ever. The rampant stupidity and selfishness of conservatives on this forum have made me more opposed to conservatism than ever before.

Nope. I was actually quite conservative in my 20s and have since started moving further and further left.

I definitely think so. My posts from 6-7 years ago make me look like a neoconservative today.

No, not really, I've always been conservative but I don't think I've significantly changed in the past 20-25 years.

That's very similar to how I've changed over the years as well.

If my past self were to see me today, he'd take a puff of his joint and say, "Hey man, you've kind of sold out." Which I think would be kind of extreme, but young people can be temperamental dicks quick to judge, you know what I mean?

I'm more cynical, otherwise pretty much the same. I have come to realize that doing nothing also doesn't screw anything up.

Was pretty Conservative when I was younger but the more I've grown, matured and learned the more Conservative I became.

Absolutely. I used to be a rabidly partisan tool of the Dems, but now I vote Democrat only about 8 or 9 times out of 10.

I'd say that I have moved left with age.

Yes I am more conservative. I've become more in favor of bigger government (which at least used to be a fairly traditional conservative attitude until the Southerners came in) while embracing religion as a public necessity and with various amounts of elitism being preferable to espousing the knowledge and virtue of common man.

I've gotten more libertarian than conservative... wonder if that will continue or not.

So far the poll results aren't lining up with what ppl are sharing. I was conservative in my 20's and still conservative now.

SRSLY? Can you name a single conservative viewpoint you hold? Because you seem to pretty much side with the left on all issues.

When I started following politics, shortly after college, I was a hard core conservative. In fact, conservatives weren't hard core enough for me, and I eventually discovered the libertarian party. From there, I was involved with the Tea Party movement (BEFORE it was hijacked by republicrats...it STARTED as a mostly libertarian thing). Simply put, I got hurt once right out of college, and ended up in the hospital, which caused me to be homeless for a couple months. But I worked my way back from that. "Pulled myself up by the bootstraps" as conservatives like to say. Little did I know, at the time...but that mantra describes a physically impossible act. What really got me out of poverty? Meeting my girlfriend, moving in with her, etc. Then moving up to CT. Then marrying her. At the end of the day, had that series of events not happened, I would still be renting a small place in FL, working at some low level position at Bed Bath and Beyond.

I have had numerous life experiences since those days. And i have learned a thing or two. About myself, and about people in general. So I now support more liberal things than I used to. I used to support abolishing minimum wage. The higher I climb in business, the more I find I support the idea, because the more I learn about the celebrated captains of industry in this country. And the more I am disgusted.

Truth is, I'd LOVE to not NEED a minimum wage, or any other SOCIAL program. But sadly, we're not to that point yet. I have rubbed shoulders with enough giants, to know, that at the end of the day...our social programs are all that keeps us from ending up as serfs.

He said CONSERVATIVE, not REPUBLICRAT.

You might want to review the differences. Cephus is hands down a conservative.

Wasn't it Winston Churchill or at least attributed to him who said, "If you are not a liberal when you are young, you have no heart. If you are not a conservative when you're old, you have no brain."

I think I have been a traditional conservative since I became interested in politics watching the Democratic and Republican conventions on TV back in 1956. Now a traditional conservative is different than the conservatives of today or neo-conservatives. As to my political beliefs, Barry Goldwater shaped them and Ross Perot probably put the finishing touches on them. Although I would say my core beliefs are pretty much the same, I have changed on many issues. Perhaps when it comes to social issues I have become more liberal but I have remained solid on fiscal issues.

My dad loved Ross Perot.

I believe that Ross Perot's beliefs are short sighted, because the beliefs of the people he wanted to empower, the "employers" of this country, are short sighted, by design. Their job is to maximize profit. Not to ensure a healthy economy. A bunch of individuals acting with the collective interest of maximizing individual profits would (will?) doom this country.

He's a small government conservative and an atheist.
