Reality is that a bunch of people make your life not only better, but possible at all.

There's military forces guarding the country, police guarding your local area, road crews maintaining the roads you drive on, utility crews maintaining the infrastructure your home uses.

Some of that you pay for directly, some is paid for by taxes.

Some would go away if you didn't pay for it, but some (like the roads) would still be there if you had no money.

Outside of my parents, no one has done crap for me. Save maybe my ex wife, current wife. Thats all reciprocal though. I do for them as well.
Take the roads, I have a 4x4. Take the cops. I can build a invasion proof home, I carry a gun, I can hunt and people lived for millions of years without electricity.

But you couldn't do that without the income you receive from living in a stable, educated society, filled with infrastructure, planning and wealth.

Try ordering parts for your 4x4 without others having the current assets.

You forget, I work. Make good money. My time at work is compensated. So its a trade off. I work, they pay. Its not like someone just sends me a check every week.

I'm very personally conservative, in the manner in which I conduct my life, and in my religious beliefs, and my respect for the better traditions of our culture and history.

Politically, I'm more center-right, but I favor some kind of social safety net (a better more efficient one really) which some say means I can't be "conservative".

I didn't suggest you didn't work. I'm arguing "big picture" stuff. How would your ability to order parts for your 4x4 change without government?

I think even conservatives have accepted. What it really means is that you're not a pure Constitutionalist, like me. But I'm not total pure either, though I think I would support a scheme better than SS to get a better rate of return. I would rather force people to invest a percentage (e.g., 5%) of their income into an investment of their choosing, rather than a payroll deduction to SS.
