It could be improved.

I am not going to vote in this poll because it is obvious starting with the OP, the lack of understanding behind the Statue of Liberty also known as the goddess of liberty "Libertas". The symbolism is significant. And she can be linked to the philosopher Cicero and his thinking. Cicero was profoundly influential upon the moral and political thought of the founders. Cicero spoke about why a republic is the most desirable form of government and how an ideal republic should be structured. It's a shame that obviously many are not aware of that. But then again we are no longer a country that encourages a classic liberal arts education.

HELL NO! The French helped us in the Revolutionary war btw

Plus on a side note: They invented French fries!

Where would a lot of people be without French fries?

What I like best about the Statue of Liberty is that a lot of xenophobes don't like it.

That's an excellent reason to keep it

Breaking laws has nothing to do with liberty, does it?

When the colonies launched their revolutionary war for liberty in 1776 they were violating English law.

No.

I get to see her on a fairly regular basis since I work about as far south in Manhattan as one can get without having to swim for it.
I like having the constant reminder of what the country is supposed to be about.

Good point.

But some people will never get it.

The reason why you believe it is because you were indoctrinated to believe it.

In layman terms, the Statue of Liberty sends a message to the rest of the world, stay the **** home and look at what we were able to accomplish.
You are capable of doing the same thing in your own country.

I never got that message from the Statue of Liberty.

It's from the heart, I assure you.

Doesn't make it any less...childish I guess would be the word. "OMG, having immigration laws and national borders as all countries do means we should tear down the Statue of Liberty because it makes us terrible people." :scared:

FYI French fries are a Belgian invention.

And French kissing.

FYI the term "French kissing" refers to an act of instinct, hence not invented by one people or another, and the term itself wasn't invented by the French (they're not that self-centered) either but rather by the English.

I accidentally voted yes but I meant to hit no. I see no reason why it should and if NYC ever gets overtaken by pink slime, it will come in handy.

I dunno, X. I see it as putting things in perspective. Like how much your nation has changed, at least on this topic.

Seriously, what do you expect. Of course we've changed from the 1800s. Is there some nation that doesn't have immigration laws, or that's an open border that we should be emulating? Canada for example?

And really, what left wing inspired criticism of the US don't you agree with? :2razz::mrgreen:

Other: demolition it and replace it with the same Statue of Liberty but with a BMI of 30, type II diabetes and watching American Housewives of Alabama.
