They are just states without senate elections this year. Ive never been there, but Ohio is supposed to be a fascinating state, a microcosm of the US.

:thanks: for the update. I remember that BHO made at least five or six stops in Ohio during the last weeks of the 2012 election! Just making sure we hadn't forgotten him, I guess! :lamo:.

I didn't use a mail in this election. I will be going to the polls although in Ohio, it is currently leaning all red across the board. And that does my heart good. Ohio has often been called the bell-weather state. And yes I will be voting for every R on the ballot. Don't do that often, but this year I see a need to. I see the Republicans taking the Senate. I think it will be at least an 8 senator gain. North Carolina at the moment is a tie but I bet a pan of hot cinnamon rolls that the R's take that seat too. I am also pleased to see the number of Republican governors that look to be victors. This will be very helpful in the days leading up to 2016.

Must be nice, Im in Ca so our govt is a sea of blue, and getting bluer every day. Its not easy being a conservative in this state, but I have found most didn't get there by accident.

Is that the latest excuse the left is going with? Nice aljazeera article.

Spare me the denialism. You guys know that making your base old, straight, white Christians is a flawed strategy. And now your (plural) racism is in high gear to make sure all those brown, black, yellow, and red people can't vote.

I'm *this* close to believing that we should scrap the federalist system and become a unitary state.

All the polling coming out of Colorado as of the last 24 hours it looks like a R win. I have learned over the years the polling always favors the Democrats because most Republicans are working and TOO busy to respond. This often gives the Democrats the edge by 2-3 points. And usually at the disclaimers at every poll more Democrats responded than Republicans and Independents for that reason. So when the races are so close the edge goes to the Republican. Another edge to the Republican is that Democrats are not known to engage in mid term elections. Democrats can tell you who is hot on TV, the names of stars on every sit-com or latest series and who was hot on the red carpet during the last emmys but can't tell you who is running for office in their local districts. Some can't recognize the current Secretary of State, or even the Vice President.

I voted right/republicans, but it wouldn't surprise me if the democrats keep the senate.

I will never underestimate the ignorance of the American voter.

Sweetie they tried their "darndest" to turn Ohio to a sea of blue but common sense prevailed. I pray common sense falls on California soon or we will have no choice as a nation but to reclaim lands to illegal immigrants to our neighbors to the South just to keep from going under! Anytime you are ready to move away from the madness, just let me know. You do know the employment opportunities under a Republican governor in the state of Ohio or quite good and the amount you have to spend on a home in California will buy you a mansion here. :)

We have had dems controlling the senate for some time, and we are 6 years into hope and change. Your policies have failed and all you can do is blame it on others, at no point is there introspection.

Whos really in denial here?

And you aren't "this close" to anything you are already there, statist.

Ha yeah I dont wish this state on anyone. Its unopposed liberalism which means everyone is ignorant and clapping like seals for more...
State Government

Governor DEM 2012: no change
Lt. Governor DEM 2012: no change
State Senate - DEM 12 GOP, 28 DEM 2012: DEM +3
State Assembly - DEM 25 GOP, 55 DEM 2012: DEM +3

Its clear theres probably no hope here, although my profession is well paid here, when you add in cost of living, income taxes etc I'd still be making more elsewhere. I'd like a place where I can target shoot, fish, long distance backpack, and play loud electric guitar in peace.

Of course they have. Don't let the facts get in your way.

EDIT: And by the way I like how you blame Obama and the Democrats and accuse us of doing the blaming. How droll.

Haha you wish. This actually gives me an idea for a new thread...

Hush your mouth LOP. Are you trying to rob the joy from the rest of us across the nation? It appears to be a for sure takeover of the Senate where Harry the honorary jackass of partisan politics will no longer prevail. But hey I can understand why you feel that way living in the oppressed land of liberal Oregon. Hope common sense falls on your constituents soon for your sake as well.

The election is only a few days off and it will be close. Im mailing in my ballot tommorow.

Greetings, Pero. :2wave:

I'd like to go to sleep until then, but I'm so curious I know I can't! So...... :lamo: The mail has really been packed this time with campaign flyers, too - unusual for a midterm! I'm already dreading 2016!

Good Morning Pol, Quick rule of thumb for those who want to go to bed early. From a Georgia and Kentucky, if the Republicans retain them and pick up West Virginia plus either North Carolina or New Hampshire or both. Go to bed with a 90% plus confidence the Republicans will win the senate.

On the other hand if the Democrats can pick up either Kentucky or Georgia or both and hang onto North Carolina and New Hampshire, go to be as the odds on the Democrats at least retaining a 50-50 split with Biden providing the tie breaking vote is 80%.

Now there are other combinations to include Georgia going to a runoff that changes the above. But as a rule of thumb for those who want to go to be early.

I dearly hope the GOP does take the Senate by a vote or two margin. It is one of the key components in a landslide coast to coast Democratic victory in 2016.

I *think* the Republicans will take the Senate but then again, I thought the NY Rangers would never make it past Pittsburgh in the playoffs last year, and I'm a lifetime Rangers fan so what do I know?:Oopsie

Tonight I'll be at the Scott Brown/Jeanne Shaheen debate which is probably one of the most important debates of this election cycle. NH is a very centrist state if not somewhat left leaning due to the migration of Massholes here in recent years. This debate IMO will sway many of the undecideds one way or another. I'll be with the Brown campaign and can't wait to see what happens. Still not sure he can put himself over the top but he's sure made it close and very interesting.

Colorado is the state I'm watching most closely now.

I wouldn't chalk up Colorado as a Republican gain just yet! I believe it will go Democrat!

Colorado with mail in ballots etc. could be hard to gauge. But the polls has been pretty solid for Gardner:

RealClearPolitics - Election 2014 - Colorado Senate - Gardner vs. Udall

As you can see RCP's average lead for Gardner, 7 polls is 3.3 points with 10% undecided. The way I view this as Udall would have to win 70% of the undecided at this point which would be unheard of. But still things like early voting, mail in ballots, have thrown some pollsters for a loop. But in Colorado's case we have 7 recent polls in which 6 show Gardner in the lead and in 3 of those 6, Gardner's lead is outside the margin of error. All in all without going into detail, I would say Gardner has a 75% chance of winning, but that still leave Udall with a 25% chance.

After all, the only real poll that counts is on election day.

Assuming no rampant voter fraud, a tie in most races this election cycle is looking like a Republican win. Take New Hampshire for example. Back in April Brown had a 5 point lead over Sheehan and that gap closed but Sheehan has struggled to maintain a clear lead. And this past week another poll came out and showed Brown 1.5 ahead of Sheehan. In true blue New Hampshire, that's saying something. But every time I have heard Brown speak, he has put much emphasis on closing down our borders for security reasons which is something across this country that seems to resonate with especially female voters. Many up to this week have called New Hampshire and North Carolina for the Democrats. It won't surprise me in the least if Republicans take both of them.

Where is the "I am a centrist American."

I don't subscribe to either ideology completely as do many others. I do think however the Republicans will take it by a close margin.

Check out the Congressional Ballot polls at Real Clear Politics
RealClearPolitics - RealClearPolitics Poll Averages
The average for Republicans is still +3. This is huge this late in the game.
But also look at those who are polling and the left leaning pollsters are showing huge numbers in favor of Republicans and places like Fox are giving an advantage to Democrats +1.
At this point one has to wonder if these polls are designed to get the vote out oh say to the left to stop a Republican gain or in Fox's case to show the need for every able Republican to get out and vote with a 1+ in the margin. Real Clear Poliitics today finally with all their averages of polls officially gave the Republicans the lead in the races for Senate.

Interesting. I read that a small majority of Harvard kids are also pro republican. Crazy time.

Greetings, Vesper. :2wave:

You may have a good point! I haven't seen this much interest in a midterm in a long time. I'm not including the 2010 midterms - I believe the outrage over the ACA was deliberately downplayed at that time, but people didn't care what the polls said, they voted how they felt! Even Obama called it a "shellacking" for the Dems!

It sounds like you had a great time tonight with your trick or treaters! Fun reading!
