Rand differs from his dad who i thought would have been a good president if not for his foreign policy positions. I felt he was too libertarian there and more of an isolationist. Rand i think is more centric there.

At this point i am leaning Paul or Carson

I like the idea of a president that has done something other than politics. I also share many of the same positions of paul and carson. Not all, but i dont miss the forest for the trees. I would support any of the above candidates tho if they won the primary.

Jon Huntsman would be my #1 pick!

I would consider voting for Paul Ryan in a primary. I would also seriously consider a strong female candidate like Nikki Haley.

    Early thoughts....

    Rand Paul
Neutral on his experience, but I like his staunchness towards a lot of conservative ideas with a little libertarian bend. I think he has a better chance of actually collecting and turning out a true "big tent" of republicans than most other candidates. May be a little to academic in his approach at times though. Would get consideration for my vote in a primary.

    Mitt Romney
Wasn't a big fan of Romney before and at this point, after a failed primary run 2 cycles ago and a failed presidential run last cycle, I'm ready for a fresh face. Probably wouldn't vote for him

    Paul Ryan
Neutral on experience. Like that he seems to be a policy guy and big on actually providing alternatives and answers rather than just saying "they're bad". I think he's charismatic and could make a decent top of the ticket type guy. Would probably get consideration for my vote in the primary.

    Ted Cruz
Experience a slight negative. At times I think he's more rhetoric than reality, more firery attacks than inspiring solutions. I also think he's less likely to tie a strong "big tent" together due to his social conservative sides and his tendancy to a controversial nature. Would probably need to really show well for him to get my vote in the primary.

    Ben Carson
Absolutely no. Zero experience which gives me immediete pause, especially after the last guy. The fact he's appears to be a creationist also gives me great pause as I question the mentality and thought process of anyone that can honestly believe such a thing.

    Scott Brown
Interesting choice. Neutral to slight positive with experience due to military service. May have a chance at creating a decent big tent turnout due to pimping his opposition to obamacare while at the same time not being an extremely vocal social conservative. Kind of just lukewarm on him though. Can't say he wouldn't get my vote, but nothing makes me necessarily want to vote for him at this point either.

I was probably the biggest fan on the forum for Huntsman. It's very unlikely to happen. Between the clownshow of a campaign last time around mixed with him being largely silent over the past few years, it just doesn't seem like it's a good situation to give it another run on the Republican ticket.

I like Jon Huntsman a lot and actually made a contribution to his campaign back in 2012, but he is not nearly crazy enough to make it through today's Republican Primary process. Ben Carson would be a good one to nominate if the Republicans want to lose over 40 states. The same with Cruz. I like Chris Christie a lot but he needs to lose a lot more weight if he wants to run.

Any one of those would be MUCH better than the current President.

Also I would add Mike Pence to the list.

I voted for Romney in 2012, and he does have his flaws but we would be much better off if he won.

he did have some really cute daughters. but the Mormon faith hurt Romney with lots of the bubble-minded bible thumpers and the same thing would happen with Huntsman. Plus he's really wealthy and the envy-as a virtue crowd-will whine about that

Re: Who would you vote for in a republican primary?

After reading this thread it's seems most people are all in for "more of the same"'. Gee that's really going to right the ship and get us back on course. I noticed not one mention of a candidate who stands for the constitution? And that, not " he needs to lose weight" or " he might be a creationist"' is what we should be focusing on.
