Do You Believe the Kurds Deserve Their Own Country?

Something that seems inevitable with the current ISIS conflict going on, is that the Kurds are going to demand a nation of their own when all is said and done. Not that one can really argue with that; they have been defending the land from ISIS for quite some time without the support of the Iraqi Government (which technically I guess there apart of). And speaking of said government, It's not exactly like Baghdad has been treating the Kurds as equal. It would seem they have every right to demand to rule themselves.

The question then becomes, what would Turkey's response be? I recall this being an issue back when we were trying to decide what Iraq would become. At the time, Turkey said they wouldn't allow it. Despite that concern though, I think this should be something that we support. As far as I know, the government that would be created would at the very least be a secular one, and that is no small feat in the ME.

So what do you think? Also, if the Kurds do gain independence, do you think the Turks will sit by and watch, or take military action to prevent it?

Well they should. They have been given no reason to trust Turkey, Syria, Iraq or Iran. They have done the most of any country with the possibilities freedom after the Iraq incursion opened for the region. They seem to have a decent act together. Power to them.

The Turks are, of course, trying to destroy them proxy the ISIS.

We already etched out countries in the Middle East twice before. It wasn't a clean affair. Whether they deserve it or not, I'd rather we don't get involved in that.

Also, Turkey needs to buzz off in all this. They have other problems to worry about.

    Sorry, but this isn't a Yes/No question.

If all we are talking about is a negotiation and decision arrived at by the Kurdish people in Iraq and the government of Iraq, then I can answer "Yes".

But if we are talking about some outside entity...the UN, maybe...stepping in, taking area away from Turkey, Iran and Iraq and calling it a new Kurdish nation, the my answer would be "No".

If the Kurds do gain independence and are attacked or stopped by Turkey then we throw Turkey out of NATO, cut off business deals with Europe (they are a large trade partner) and put even more military support into training kurds but with bigger, better military weapons. There should also be a halt to any budget help from the US or other major nations to Turkey

Turkish tanks and forces are sitting by the border at Kobane allowing an extreme terrorist group to try and cleanse the town and area of kurds. They could easily do something about ISIS there but have no interest. I put this all down to Erdogan who seems hell bent on taking Turkey from pro-West to some sinister ally with heavily Islamist leanings.

I think Kurdistan may have a chance to become a country in Syria and Iraq. But it cannot happen in southern territories of Turkiye (where they live) because that would weaken our ally.

So I second that this is not an easy Yes/No question. Consider changing the poll Hamster?
