No, he's talking about the Michael Brown video showing the thug robbing a little ole Asian guy's store.

I was talking about a store owner that has had, let's say, younger black teenagers steal from him time and again, so of course when a younger black teen enters his store, he is going to be more vigilant than if somebody other type of person entered.

How could that be racism?

From what I'm reading 'whites' predominately, run the system, and show favoritism towards their own kind?

That's a substantial portion of it, but even this way it doesn't have to be a conscious decision, but almost without much reflection.

But it doesn't have to be isolated to keeping persons of color "out". It could also be a systemic issue of culture. If you know no one who had been able to succeed at modest or more than modest successes, you're far less likely to be socially cultivated toward those goals.

To me, white privilege was a simple concept for me to grasp, despite being a white male. As a student in special education, I understood as a small child how privilege works in a multitude of ways. Not only was it more difficult for me to do well in school because I neurologically had difficulty doing certain tasks, but the learning environment presupposed that my method of learning was not beneficial to the rest of the student body, thus wouldn't be utilized. A student in special education is largely stigmatized by society immediately, and they begin to have their lives planned out as a result of the diagnosis, rather than their individual capabilities or interests. I never grew up with the idea that a college education was in any way a practical reality, whereas all of my peers were constantly inundated with the necessity and likelihood that they would get some sort of higher learning. Unemployment is huge among our population, and it's almost an expectation rather than an outrage. Socially, persons with disabilities are not seen as sexual beings, have more difficulty gaining relationships (especially romantic ones) or are even barred from such relationships by those deemed able to consent.

While race relations are different from what I described above, there's some level of continuity involved with the more abstract nature of privilege. It just seemed rather intuitive to me, but I know for many it's not. .Many people also see privilege as an attack on their own accomplishments. While some do that (reducing another person's hard work) even though they shouldn't put it that way, it doesn't make the concept not real. I think it's acceptable for me to say I probably had to overcome a lot more than the average person in order to do seemingly normal things. That shouldn't be seen as me saying you did not work hard to get where you were. I just probably had to go through more hoops or had less support in the process.

You're describing the experience of a racist.

Do you own any kind of business or have any experience with this?

If 50% of black customers at a buy here/pay here car lot don't make their payments, should the owner of the car lot look closer at any other black customers that come in, or should he ignore the facts and keep selling cars to people that don't pay and go out of business?

What would you do?

Let's take color out of it.

In a society like Mexico has where everybody is the same color, give or take, why do some people get ahead and some do not?

Because it involves race. There are infinite common factors. Race is just one. The fact that that's one we see is telling.

It is something you are not capable of understanding.

Business owners should be permitted to be racist?

I'm capable of understanding your point, the inverse seems to be the issue.

Just like the vigilant Asian shopkeeper that thug Michael Brown robbed minutes before he attacked the cop who told him to stop walking down the middle of the street. The ONLY racism was perpetrated by the tiny little Asian shopkeeper trying to stop 6'4", 300 pound Michael Brown from leaving his store with the stolen merchandise and the white 'privileged' cop who had the nerve to tell the thug to get out of the street.

That's all...

Blacks don't commit crimes on a disproportional level? They are just incarcerated for being black?

Blacks have longer and harsher sentences for similar crimes compared to their white counterparts. Blacks are also specifically targeted for arrest through racial profiling.

OMG Has BO fixed this? If not why not?

Of course not. The President of the United States has no jurisdiction over who police choose to arrest or not arrest. He does not have the power to snap his fingers and fix everything single ****ing problem in the entire country.

On that very subject...BLACK PRIVILEGE

While over half of your points are in fact complete hog wash, I agree with you that there are certain social advantages to being born black too. Black privilege does also exist. It just doesn't match up (anywhere near to) to white privilege. Your point suggests you accept privilege exists when other people have it. So you can now admit that white privilege does exist?

No it means the store owner has had problems with more people of a certain race and when more people of that race come into the store, they are looked at more closely.

If the store owner looks at black people more closely he will be more likely to catch them when they do steal, while white kids who aren't monitored don't get caught at all. This fuels the shopkeepers confirmation bias ("I knew I was right about those damn black kids") and the cycle perpetuates.

Is There Such a Thing as "White Privilege"?

As Wiki defines it: "White privilege (or white skin privilege) is a term for societal privileges that benefit white people beyond what is commonly experienced by non-white people in the same social, political, or economic circumstances" White privilege - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Poll won't mean a thing. Quite easy to make an anonymous poll turn out the way one wants to.

But no, there is no such thing as white privilege. Just as there is no such thing as reverse racism. People will attempt to claim that there is using all sorts of convoluted logic...or Insane Troll Logic as my wife puts it....in order to try and further their bigoted and possibly racist agenda.

Those weren't MY points. Those were someone else's points. Here is my point. This **** happens daily in St. Louis, MO. among those poor mistreated blacks with no privileges.

I think that in some areas of the country, and depending who you are dealing with, you may get preferential treatment based on your skin color.
I expect this applies to whatever skin color you have.

Far more prevalent is "Power privilege", wherein a person who has political power (fame included), monetary power, or both, will be treated differently.

I personally think that this is far more wide-spread than any color-based bias, and further, has been ingraining itself in our very culture, whereas bias based on skin color is slowly but surely being excised from same.

I know down in the Southeastern Conference those fast black running backs and those giant black offensive linemen drive some of the coolest cars you've ever seen. Not to mention all those $500 handshakes from the white privileged boosters.:2wave:

I'm willing to be called a racist in order to express my discontent with their driving skills.;)

Here we see bigots mistaking anecdotes for data. In other news, pigs don't fly.

Did I say the store owner would not be vigilant with other customers?

Uhhh what? How so?

Log out, vote, clear cookies, vote again. Rinse and repeat. Its the very reason that all of my polls are always public. I don't care who votes what and don't hold it against them. I just care about a poll being honest. ;) (not saying that you would vote this way...but others would and have in the past)

Hmm never knew that! Time to bring the fraud! But anyways, if someone actually did that to rig a internet forum poll, they have to be pretty pathetic!

If he is being more vigilant with one race, then by definition he is being less vigilant with another?

based off your question, definition and the simplistic yes or no framing theres only one answer and that answer is yes, there is.
now having said that it is a much deeper conversation than that but yes the fact is it exists in a form, the form can be honestly debated but not the existence.

So you think the Liberal newspaper, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported the murders of the two dead drug dealers (who also were without privileges) down the street from tonight's playoff game for me to use as an anecdote?

BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.(who also were without privileges)
