As for what you are using as an example - our Founding Fathers did just that. Most of them were very wealthy, and put their wealth, honor, and lives on the line for principle. They could just as easily said, "... I'm rich, can live a life of ease - screw the little guy", but they didn't do that... they risked it all. And to be sure some of them lost all their wealth, some of them lost their lives, but they did not lose their honor.
Americans are so weak-kneed and lacking in education, perspective, and honor today that there is no hope that liberty will be seen again in our lifetime. Hopefully some future generation of Americans can rise up and restore freedom, but I know I won't be alive to see it.
