This level of incompetency in dealing with the Ebola outbreak, and it's spread / purposeful importation to our country, has me very concerned.

Seriously. Why isn't there a 3 week quarantine of anyone who has traveled from or through the Ebola outbreak areas in Africa to the US been imposed? Isn't containment of the outbreak the first order of business with the highest of priorities?
Yes - that and it just being, on the onset, like so many other ailments.

The guy in Dallas - apparently the woman he helped (the pregnant woman in Liberia) whom spread it to a larger number of people was believed to be sick *with pregnancy related complications*

They didn't think she was sick with Ebola.
They didn't think the guy was sick with it, either.

Detection is the essential and missing element as is adequate purging (like the whole 'we bleached' fiasco - where the CDC said they weren't adequately prepared for the cleanup).

So what is it that will tip healthcare provides off to someone *having Ebola* and not just a stomach bug?
A screaming comes across the sky.
It has happened before, but there is nothing to compare it to now.

US govt. is taking matters too lightly. We had our experience with SARS. Quarantine and contact tracing should be relentless.

I just like to ask questions like: If it is so hard to catch, why did no less than 3 doctors with good training and proper equipment catch the virus? Why is it also a pandemic?

What we have in America, though, is not Ebola. Ebola is crazy bad. If you get Ebola, it will liquefy your body in 48 hours. Ebola mutates so often, you can't create a vaccine or cure. When they encountered it in the 70's, they quarantined entire towns in Africa until they all died. Ebola should be feared greatly. What we have is bad, but it isn't as bad as Ebola. I don't buy the official line though. If it is so hard to communicate, it shouldn't be spreading so easily.

For one, since you seem to be obsessed with Obamacare to the point it is your name, a real socialist would not have taken a capitalistic approach to healthcare (leaving the private sector, not only in place, but making them the centerpiece of the solution).

I'd refer you to the CDC web page:
    Symptoms of Ebola include

    • Fever (greater than 38.6°C or 101.5°F)
    • Severe headache
    • Muscle pain
    • Weakness
    • Diarrhea
    • Vomiting
    • Abdominal (stomach) pain
    • Unexplained hemorrhage (bleeding or bruising)

Symptoms may appear anywhere from 2 to 21 days after exposure to Ebola, but the average is 8 to 10 days.

Recovery from Ebola depends on good supportive clinical care and the patient’s immune response. People who recover from Ebola infection develop antibodies that last for at least 10 years.

Signs and Symptoms | Ebola Hemorrhagic Fever | CDC

Of course, as we all well know from other viral infections, before the systems become pronounced, the carrier is a source of transmission. Just like the common cold viruses.

To my mind, as severe as the consequences are from becoming infected with Ebola the risks are great, so the slightest of suspicion of possible infection needs to met with immediate and strict quarantine until guaranteed infection free is assured. It's the only way, in my view, to effectively keep the outbreak from spreading an infecting a large number of people, putting their lives, and other people's lives, at risk.

You would think so wouldn't you. But right now many of us here aren't feeling real confident with those in charge of such things. We already have outbreaks of diseases once seen as won battles in this country over the past couple of years. Whooping cough is highly contagious and is a killer in the very young and old. But here in Ohio we are seeing a scary increase of this disease along with tuberculosis and some God awful flesh eating super bug. But then again we let a whole lot of folks into our country undocumented who do not go through a physical exam as those who enter legally. I just read a report about those scanning passengers boarding flights into our country and others from these areas where this disease is spreading were absolute buffoons, incompetent of their duties. That might be a good place to start attacking the threat before it goes global.

Your problem is that you have no coherent bearing that allows you to distinguish between the right and the far right. The fact that you cannot work out that Obama is a died in the wool socialist suggests that you think are not even all that knowledgeable about the left.

A real socialist certainly will take a capitalistic approach to advance socialism incrementally. If you knew anything about Obama's background, you would know of the one speech he gave as a Senator expressing his desire for single payer healthcare where he made the point: "I don't think we can get there in one step". The so-called Affordable Healthcare Act was originally written with that in mind. It had a clause that would have taken us into "single payer" if Obamacare failed. Fortunately that clause was stricken before passage.

I hate to be the one to break it to you however you are not an objective judge of anyone's credibility. Have a nice day.

I agree. And if there is an Ebola outbreak, it will most likely be a result of our nearly open southern border. While Grandma and three year olds are getting frisked at airports and we are being so careful with incoming flights, Ebola if it does get out hand on this side of the world....it will likely break out in Mexico first and then just walk over the border. It's first victims in that outbreak will think they just have the cold or flu and will take over the counter remedies until a panic ensues.

Because Africans are pouring across our southern border?

So long as it doesn't go airborne, we should be fine.
