Yes, you are. You provided a definition that doesn't exist.

Or we need to be open to not offending. We used to call it treating someone how you'd lke to be treated, common politeness.

Often time slang does not make it into a definition in a dictionary...

    Definition of GAY

    1

    a : happily excited : merry <in a gay mood>

b : keenly alive and exuberant : having or inducing high spirits <a bird's gay spring song>

    2

    a : bright, lively <gay sunny meadows>

    b : brilliant in color

    3

: given to social pleasures; also : licentious

    4

    a : homosexual <gay men>

b : of, relating to, or used by homosexuals <the gay rights movement> <a gay bar>
    — gay adverb

    — gay·ness noun

Gay - Definition and More from the Free Merriam-Webster Dictionary

I don't see gay as defined as funny, stupid, retarded or any other number of ways that gay can be used. There are other words that are similar.

Your definition trumps all argument fails.

No, it doesn't. And you've offered no evidence it does.

The point is that so many things offend people now that it is stupid. Women offended if you open the door for them. Calling a woman ma'am. Saying, hey see that guys shirt? Who's shirt? The black guys shirt (to single out who you are talking about) and somebody says... that's racist. I can go on and on about the stupid things people are offended by. They can piss in the wind.

    Re: FCC + 'Redskins'

The broadcast media before 10pm are the most government censored media we have in the USA. Some types of sexual and excretory content and a few taboo words are the only legally censored content in the broadcast media. Despite previous requests, the courts have not allowed any other type of censorship, including restrictions on violence or use of racially/ethnically derogatory words, and I don't think that will change in the near future. If the FCC pushes for a change to that precedent, it will probably not be for the mildly offensive word "Redskin."

Maybe, but a term with a clear history of a derogatory should not be considered that way.
