    Question For Parents

As a parent how important to you is whether or not your kids when they grow up (or if they are already), sharing the same or very similar political and ideological beliefs that you have?

To me, it's not important, as long as his ethical standards are high, and he's trustworthy. My son turned out to be a bit more liberal than I, but he still has the same core beliefs.

Not a parent (yet ) but ideally my child would think for himself/herself. In fact, I'd consider myself to be a bad parent if my child agreed with me 100% on everything.

    Re: Question For Parents

My older daughter is my mini-me, and now appreciates classical music, among other things, because she heard me listen to it when she was young. She kind of follows me, and I'm OK with that. My middle and youngest? They are much more headstrong and they go their own way. I lean liberal, and so do they, but if they wanted to lean conservative, I'd beat the crap out of them and lock them in the basement. J/K, J/K. I never have to worry about that, though. They are really more liberal than me. They have to follow their own beliefs. I'd never have issue with them doing that.

I want my kids to come to their own beliefs. We have some good and in-depth discussions, and I try to guide them, but... it's their choice and responsibility to form their own beliefs. My youngest is at school at UNC Chapel Hill, the most liberal school in this state. He has been getting indoctrinated in the liberal ethos. We have had some very heated discussion - not disrespectful, but heated. He has changed his views somewhat due to my giving him facts to research on his own instead of taking his professors political statements as fact. He still leans to the left, but not as far. Of course, I'm not so far to the right that I can't even see out of my left eye, like some are on here.

I feel that parents have a duty to help their children understand the world, which includes politics. But, that duty requires facts, and not rhetoric. I pity the kids of some here that are either on the extreme left or extreme right, and show us daily that facts come way behind rhetoric.

Everything in your life is a reflection of a choice you have made. If you want a different result, don't blame someone else, or expect others to make a change, you should stop complaining and make a different choice. Remember, the circumstances of your birth don't determine the outcome of your life.

    Re: Question For Parents

I don't care what they think politically as long as they take care of me when I get older. I told them this already and I want golfing holidays, among other things.

They had better earn a great income because I expect a lot...

It's those sweet quiet English Bulldogs that you have watch out for. They give you those sweet puppy eyes when in front of you and bite you hard in the butt when you turn around.
